The roller coaster ride for Sonny Weems began last night when the Chicago Bulls picked the former Razorback swingman as its 39th pick in the NBA draft. According to this morning’s Chicago Tribune, Weems had turned the heads of a few scouts during a predraft camp in Orlando, Fla.
But Weems wasn’t a teammate of Bulls No. 1 draft pick Derrick Rose for very long. In fact, Dana Altman was the head coach of the Razorbacks for a longer spell than Weems was a Bull. In a mild surprise move from the Denver Nuggets, who had already traded away its 2008 draft slots, Weems was switched around in a three-team move between Chicago, Denver, and the Portland Trailblazers to land him in the Mile High City. Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien had mile-high words for his new player: “World class,” Warkentien said. “He’s so athletic that he can fit in the NBA as an energy guy.” [read more]
