UT makes game provisions ahead of Hurricane Ike

AUSTIN With the threat of Hurricane Ike making landfall somewhere along the Gulf coast this weekend, University of Texas officials said Tuesday they plan to monitor the situation closely over the next few days.

UT held its regular Tuesday meeting to discuss game day operations for Saturday’s game against Arkansas at Royal-Memorial Stadium.

Texas spokesman John Bianco said the school would likely wait until at least Thursday to decide whether to make any changes to the game, which is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

If the threat of dangerous weather looms or a state-mandated evacuation occurs one option would be to move the game to Sept. 27, an open date for both teams. Moving the game to an earlier start is also an option.

Bianco said it’s too early to discuss scenarios but mandatory evacuations along the Interstate 35 corridor could affect the game. [read more]
