Wingo to Arkansas

St. Louis University High Coach Gary Kornfeld confirmed to the Tribune that SLUH running back Ronnie Wingo has given a verbal commitment to Arkansas.

“I’m not stunned, but I’m a little surprised,” Kornfeld said.

At 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, Kornfeld said Wingo was calling the coaches from the other schools he had been considering, including Missouri and Illinois, which, incidentally were the two schools Kornfeld had thought would be in the final running for Wingo.

“But I know Ronnie had a great visit to Arkansas,” he said.

Kornfeld said he didn’t believe Wingo had any issues with Missouri’s style of offense or the role the MU coaches envisioned for Wingo.

“No, I don’t think that was a factor at all,” Kornfeld said. “That’s not something he ever discussed with me. … Cornell Ford and Coach Pinkel did a great job recruiting him. And I really thought he was headed their direction.” [read more]
