FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino surprised no one by announcing Thursday that Ryan Mallett is his starting quarterback exiting spring drills, but his plan of action at that position was intriguing.
“If we were playing Missouri State on Saturday, Ryan Mallett would start and the first series of the second quarter I would bring in Tyler Wilson and let him play that first series,” Petrino said during his spring wrap-up meeting with reporters.
Petrino took the idea from former Miami and Louisville Coach Howard Schnellenberger and employed it during his time at Louisville, most notably during Brian Brohm’s freshman season.
