TOLEDO, Ohio – The Arkansas men’s golf team knocked off No. 1 Georgia in the NCAA Championship semifinals Friday and will take on Texas A&M today for a shot at its first national championship.

The Razorbacks, whose top finish in nationals was a fourthplace showing in 1994, defeated Georgia, 3-1-1, in match play to advance Friday at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

The Aggies defeated Arizona State and Michigan in match play Friday to advance to the championship at 10 a.m. today, when the two squads will vie for the first national championship under the new match play format.

“Georgia had such a hard match this morning,” Arkansas coach Brad McMakin said. “We thought they might take us a little bit for granted. We were kind of hoping that would happen … We wanted to jump on them early, get up on them and make them think about it. We were fortunate they had to play Oklahoma State [Friday morning]. This is how it goes in match play and hopefully we can continue [Saturday].” [read more]
