Bobby Petrino cracked a smile and even a joke in front of hundreds of reporters Wednesday at the start of SEC Media Days in Hoover, Ala.
Last year, you didn’t see many lighthearted quips from the media-weary coach at the Wynfrey Hotel.
The scene broadcast nationally on ESPNU Wednesday was quite a bit different from his first foray into the world of the SEC last July. His view from the podium hadn’t really changed, but the tone was much different.
Gone were the questions about Petrino’s ugly divorce with the Atlanta Falcons and relationship with the NFL franchise. Questioners were more interested in quarterback Ryan Mallett, the Arkansas defense, his son Nick joining the team as a walk-on and his vote for the first-team quarterback on the coaches’ All-SEC ballot.
“I feel a little more comfortable today than I did a year ago standing up here, I can tell you that,” Petrino smiled. [read more]
