Arkansas senior defensive starters safety Matt Harris and linebacker Wendel Davis have been suspended for “violation of team rules”.

Harris, Davis and reserve wide receiver Marques Wade are not expected to compete in Saturday’s Liberty Bowl game against East Carolina. Arkansas officials would not confirm what the three players were suspended for, only that they are being disciplined.

Without Harris and Davis, a pair of starters under coach Bobby Petrino the last two seasons, Arkansas is without its second and third leading tacklers. The suspension effectively ends the career of both players.

It is not immediately clear who will replace Harris and Davis in the starting lineup. Sophomore Jerry Franklin is listed as the back-up to Davis, which means the team would need another starter at outside linebacker. Harris’ back-up on the two-deep is listed as Anthony Leon. [read more]
