FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas freshman pitcher Nolan Sanburn has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year midseason watch list, as announced on Thursday.
Sanburn is one of 46 pitchers on the watch list for the award, which is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball.
A native of Kokomo, Ind., Sanburn has excelled in the closer’s role for the Razorbacks this season, saving eight games in 10 opportunities and posting a 2-1 record with a 1.52 ERA in 17 appearances. Sanburn is just four saves shy of tying the school record for single-season saves, currently held by Tim Dietz (1985) and Phillip Stidham (1989).
Sanburn has struck out 26 batters in 23.2 innings and opposing batters are hitting just .145 against the freshman right hander. Sanburn has not allowed a run in 15 of his 17 outings this season and has given up just one run over his last 13 innings of work. Read more …
