Saturday's Scrimmage
« on: August 16, 2006, 08:53:05 AM »
No hitting

Fans are welcome to attend SaturdayÂ’s scrimmage, but they shouldnÂ’t expect to see a headbanger, Coach Houston Nutt said. There will be no tackling to the ground because he wants to limit injury risk. Nutt said he considered closing the next scrimmage but ultimately was swayed by wanting to reward fans for their support.

Kicker is down to two, Arnold and Bailey.
Vinnet to have surgery.
Jerrell Norton has become eligible.
ESPN to do a story on Malzahn and the Springdale kids.
London Crawford is nursing a sore knee.

The iconic 'alien' is to us what we are to apes: small, pale, big headed, and with unfathomable technology. We even abduct them for medical experiments. Mind blown.

After we fumble about 7 times against USC the excuse is going to be that we just didn't hit enough in fall camp to their bodies ready for contact...somewhere Buddy Ryan just killed a bunny rabbit.

More accurately, the complaint from fans is going to be that we didn't hit enough.  If they were to hit more and get more injuries Saturday, the complaint would be that we hit too much.

Obviously, the fan is always right about these things.   :stache:

Here's one fan voting to go ahead close the scrimmage.

Nothing wrong with running plays, blocking live, and the defense hitting the ball carrier and only wrapping him up and not taking him to the ground.

A scrimmage is to simulate live game situations.  Other than the qb's, everybody should be live.

Hopefully the belt flags from Eastbay will arrive in time for the Fan Appreciation Scrimmage.

Rage is right, Nutt is in a no win situation.  If they go live, and a stud gets hurt, he's an idiot.  If they don't go live, and the first game we look like we haven't gone live, he's an idiot.

The key thing here is this:  HDN needs to stop cutting bait.  It's time to actually go fishing.  He has painted a self portrait of a guy who hates to make anybody mad, and in doing so, he makes nobody happy.  Vito Corleone would grab him and spit in his face, "Be a man!"

Isn't this Saturday's scrimmage the scrimmage that would have been Fan Appreciation day?

I'm thoroughly confused on UofA's quarterback situation. Dick did an admiral job last year, but he's hurt, and probably won't be productive unless rested, for a while. Johnson has proven to be a bad qb, although he's good against the Hogs 2nd & 3rd team defenses. Mustain is the reigning Gatorade "Player of the Year," and chose Arkansas, of all places. If we're fortunate to land this sort of talent, he should be getting the majority of the work, and being developed into THE qb.

Son, if you can't take a little newbie hazing from me, you're going to be in for a rough ride here.

HP is the one that made fun of you, admirally, I must say.  I just gave you a standard woopig greeting.

I'll go ahead and weigh in also...this is football and injuries happen.  If we had sufficient depth maybe this wouldn't be such a problem for the Nuttster. I think you've got to do some actually hitting before the season starts. Agreed QBs ought to off limits and maybe the tailbacks, but at some point they actually have to play the game.  Go ahead and hit me Razor

I'll preface this so everyone knows Author is my boy.

But Nutt is in a no win situation on his own account. He's dug his own grave with his own decisions and it has put him in this situation.

Sure, he didn't get all the players hurt, but with the way he's handled the fans the past few years in regards to going off-limits (closed practices (which I think is just asanine), no fan day, wavering on discipline based on the 'star' power of the offender, etc...) he has earned his way into this no-win situation.

Save the stars.

Let the reserves scrimmage and give the fans something.

Because if he doesn't, and we suffer through a six or seven win season, a hell storm will befall on his ass.

Okay, even if he keeps it all closed up and goes to a six or seven win season, he still gets the hell storm.

But that storm wouldn't be so bad if he hadn't alienated most of the fan base like he has the past three years.
