Double your gas mileage.

We used to laugh at Grandpa when he'd head off and go fishing. But we wouldn't be laughing that evening when he'd come back with some whore he picked up in town.

Double your gas mileage.

Pour a cup of denatured alcohol into your tank about every 4 tanks of gas, and forget about all this other bullshit.  Acetone has too many emulsifiers, which clog up the vents in your block, and stops up your injectors.  Defeats the purpose, bigtime.

Don't bother with "injector cleaner."  All it is is denatured alcohol with a pretty package.  It'll knock some of the gunk off of your spark plugs, too.

This is a high quality post.

It works.  Just don't try to substitute rubbing alcohol.  Got to be denatured.

All acetone does is fool the oxygen sensor which then leans the fuel air mixture, thus better mileage. The alcohol is a universal solvent and absorbs the water from the gasoline and allows it to be burned.

As I've learned from another board, alcohol itself is a water magnet (I forget the chemical term for this, I read it, and do not understand it at all) and thus it's best to use this when you're going to be burning through the entire tank.  In other words, letting it rest will lead to water in places where water is not usually supposed to be.

Alcohol is polar, like water, so it's hydrophilic ("water-loving").
Gasoline is basically just a mixture of hydrocarbon chains (including octane, C8H18, for example) which are non-polar, and thus hydrophobic ("water-fearing").

If you were to leave alcohol in your tank for any extended period of time, the small amount of water present in the gasoline would collect around the particles of alcohol.  Gasoline should be a relatively homogeneous mixture of hydrocarbons with minute amounts of water scattered.  Leaving alcohol in would turn it into something more like an emulsion; you would have a few pockets of lots of water instead of thousands of tiny droplets.  (Think of mayonnaise that's been sitting WAY too long; it's an emulsion of water & fat.)

I would expect running that through your motor wouldn't be a good thing.

Hydrophilic... that was it.

Nice job, med student-to-be.

Correct.  Thanks for bringing that up.  You need to pour it in on an empty tank, then fill the tank on top of it.  If you don't, what you describe above is exactly what will happen.

It's similar to what happens to your exhaust if you only live a mile from work, and don't ever really heat your motor up.  It'll rot from the inside out.

This is a high quality post.

Now that we have the alcohol out of the way, what about the acetone?
