Know anyone that is a hater?
« on: November 22, 2010, 01:30:41 PM »
I personally don't, but I hear them all the time on the call-in shows, and read some of their drivel on message boards from time to time. Well, here you go, Hater. This one is for you:

Arkansas is 9-2. It has two road wins over ranked teams and those teams remained ranked after they lost. Even the one that got spanked hard. A win over LSU will give us four wins vs. ranked teams. That's never been done before. We won 3 in 1999. After losing to a ranked Ole Miss team, we upset Tennessee at home, beat ranked Miss St in LR, then aMm the bed at Baton Rouge before beating Texas in Dallas. A win against LSU and a bowl win could give us five wins over ranked opponents, with two on the road and two at neutral sites.

5-7
8-5
9-2 (with two to play)

From the dredges of nothing to potentially a top ten finish in 3 years. Awesome.

And we will have a chance to be better in year four. And we have depth that looks sustainable for the next three and we're getting our best ever (on paper) recruiting class together this year.

We beat a pretty good Texas A&M team while playing like aMm.  We beat SEC-E champion South Carolina like Tina Turner on their on field.  We beat a good, ranked bowl team in aMm on their home field.

We have lit up the scoreboard since our relatively slow start on offense this year.  We still have only give up more than 24 points twice now.

We are scoring 38 points per game and putting up nearly 500 yards per game against a brutal schedule (6th toughest in the country).  We are 5th in the SEC in total defense.  We are passing for 340 yards per game and rushing for 150 more.  We have best punt returner in the SEC (just a junior).  We have very solid punting and kicking (sophomore and freshman).  We have 33 fricking sacks on the season, including 3 of the top 10 sack leaders in the conference (junior, junior, sophomore).  We only allow opponents to convert on 3rd down 32% of the time, best in the SEC.  We have the best red zone offense in the SEC.

We have a 1,000 yard rusher who basically didn't play in the first 5 games and who sports an SEC best 7.0 ypc (sophomore).  He's also dropped 12 TDs.  We have a 3,000 yard passer who will likely hit 30 TDs for the second year in a row with single digit interceptions.  Oh yeah, he's also completing 67% of his passes this year.

Speaking of that, I sure would like to know how pass efficiency rating works, given the fact that:

PASS EFFICIENCY   Cl   G   Comp-Att-Int   Pct.   Yards   TD   Long   Effic.
1.   Cam Newton-AU   JR   11   135 - 198 - 6   68.2   2038   21   94   183.6
2.   Ryan Mallett-AR   JR   11   229 - 341 - 9   67.2   3272   27   89   168.6

orly?  3 more interceptions, but 6 more TDs and more than 1,200 more yards with a comparable completion percentage = Newton with a much higher rating?  Something about that stat is fishy.

Basically, we are fairly bad ass and may be extremely bad ass next year.

Things are on the way up in a big way.

TWSS.

While I don't know him personally, Kirk Herbstriet appears to be an investor in the Haterade.

Sean Salisbury too I imagine.

And then there is this:

I know a guy in Houston that may be getting a woopig Christmas card in the mail this year...

How well did we succeed under Crowe/Kines and Ford? Personally I saw what I believe to have been real progress this year. For those want Nutt gone 10 wins, a division title, SEC coach of the year and a top 20 finish isn't enough.  Do you think had Hatfield not left that we would have fared better in the SEC? I don't.
We also have run off most of our successful football coaches. Keep wishing boys and you'll get what you want but don't blame me when you don't get the results you wanted.  If we go back to crowe/kines/ford days it is ALL on your shoulders. Let's remember that.  You are the people calling for the housecleaning not me. I support the coach and I support the program and I can only hope that woopig does not represent the fan base as whole because if you do we have bunch of petulant children who will hold their breath till they turn blue.
You folks are the lunatic fringe, end of story. I'm ONLY in the minority on this board and it is hardly reflective of the entire fan base eventhough you wish to position yourselves as such.

How can you be down on team like that to the point you want to clean house with absolutely NO reason to believe the next choice will do any better?
I feel pretty comfortable that we will win 10 games next year so I think we will have continued stability in the program despite what you or I want :P  I don't oppose stability, I believe my statement was that if we don't win 10 next year he probably should step down, if for no other reason that to appease the lunatic fringe and bring some unity back to the fan base. But you know you guys did such a great job with Nolan and his replacement, shoot we are LIGHT years ahead of where we were with him aren't we?  yes that was a solid move by the lunatic fringe.  As I recall that is what brought woopig into being, so you see you've always been the lunatic fringe.

Hey with fans like ya'll, full of love and gratitude I'm certain we can hire whomever we want!
I don't want Nutt gone, I thought he did a superb job this year of taking a team most had planted in the cellar and turned around and won the division. Say what you will that takes some pretty good coaching.  And if the fan base of the lunatic fringe would get off his ass for a bit and help build some unity back into the program I think we can go much farther.  But you are so serious about your agenda you don't think twice about the damage you cause and yet you say you care about the program? I don't think so. I think you have very large internet egos that demand you look smart, hip and happening to your fellow posters, that's about it.

Like I said you guys are a cancer on the program and I'm guessing if you get your way you'll discover TRUE mediocrity in the program.
Since it is impossible to reason with the lunatic fringe there simply isn't much point in posting... Honestly guys it is simply not worth the trouble, you are absolutely sure you are right and you won't be happy till Nutt is gone and we're stuck with God knows what. Just remember if we return to those golden days of Crowe/Kines and Ford you''ll have no one to blame but yourselves.
Time will tell who was right and who was wrong and I hope you'll have the abililty to admit just HOW wrong you were when the time comes. You can join those who are now crawfishing on the Nolan fiasco, gee they finally realize that change simply for the sake of change doesn't always bring about the desired results, gosh imagine that!
I didn't try to reason with anyone, simply pointed out that there IS not point in trying to reason with the lunatic fringe, minds are made up, nothing will change their minds. But just remember when and if the changes you desire come about, the results are on you. If we slip back to the crowe/kines/ford days you will only have yourselves to blame... Mostly I feel sorry for most of you as you've built your entire on line lives around hating Nutt, you'll be lost if he moves on. You'll have to start feeding on each other.
Whether I suck at this or not means little in the total scope of things as does your desire to pull down the entire football program because you arm chair quarterback know SO much more than coaches who have spent their entire lives learning the game but by all means, carry on! But again I remind you, when and if it all comes tumbling down and we return to the days of crowe/kines and ford, you get to carry the blame not me.
And there was a point in trying to get past your obvious bias towards the coaching staff that won ten games this year, has the SEC coach of the year, will have a legit Heisman candidate on the team for the first time in history and finished in the top 25. But again the arm chair qb's here a woopig possess a special knowledge of football that far surpasses what the national media and various other experts think. You guys know SO much more. I was actually hoping to talk some sense into you but we have here is a whole batch of Forrest City Joe's. Did you all major in "football"? How many of you have actually played the game beyond playstation? How many have coached as any level? How many just have a hard on for Nutt? And yes you are stupid to demand the head of a coach that just posted a ten win season, actually it's beyond stupid but on a par with woopig standards.
You kiddies respect no one and nothing, one of the great tragedies of your generation and will probably be the death of our culture as we know it. Hardly what I would call progress but then I think you are all pond scum anyway so it really doesn't much matter. Just keep ripping the coach and keep ripping the program and if you have it your way we'll be right back to crowe/kines and ford and you'll have a whole new set of things to bitch about but only yourselves to blame.
Just for grins name ONE high profile quality coach that wants to come here, just one, don't need a list, just one. You know  we don't pay enough, won't pay enough and can't pay enough to compete with the other schools in the SEC.  You've seen what the coaches make, you ready to pay Saban numbers to get your coach? You gonna make up the difference? Coming out of your pocket? I believe Frank covered that topic when he talked about our financial base so unless you or someone else is ready to pony up the jack you really should either 1. shut up or 2. find the money.
Usually when I see the list that most jokers post about the coaches we "could" have I can only wonder how they can be so delusional.  1960's and 70's Arkansas was a plum job, that was then and it is not the same now. Our fan base has turned into a meat grinder that eats coaches alive, we did it to Hatfield, we did it to Nolan and we're doing it to Nutt.
What you call support I call a concerted effort to bring down the athletic department and that is why I question your loyalty. Your loyalty seems to be misplaced upon your own delusions of grandeur, that somehow you, an average fan, know more about running athletic departments and major sports programs than those who have dedicated their lives to doing it.

I don't know the formula, but TD per attempt is what is giving Newton the advantage.  21 TD on 198 attempts, vs 27 TD on 341 attempts.  Mallett's int/attempt is way better, but the TD ratio is weighted heavily.

The college pass efficiency stat rewards those who throw less passes.

TD/attempt is weighted heavily, but the most weighted stat is yards/attempt.  Sacks factor in as well.

Obviously, it's much easier for Newton to get a higher efficiency b/c he only passes 18 times/game.  And with them running for 350 yards/game, every time he throws it it's a surprise.  I can't believe Rev Hair has him in his top 20 picks.  Sure, he has a great arm, but has he ever thrown an NFL route?

As for the original post, it's going to be HARD for us NOT to win 10 games this year.  It's happened once in 18 years in the SEC, coincidentally the year we had all the cancers on the team.  If we accomplish that in Petrino's third year, and just 2 years removed from last second victories over LaMo and a I-AA team, that's a helluva coaching job.

Just imagine had Nutt not been fired.

Start with the 2008 season and just...imagine. No Greg Childs, no J Wright, no Joe Adams, no Dennis Johnson. Nathan Dick waiting in the wings behind big brotha. It be a dim picture.

Just look back at what Petrino inherited from Dale, not just physically, but mentally.  A bunch of weak, slow, short spoiled losers used to slovenly practices and not being held accountable.  Nutt sure didn't take responsibility for his recruiting and coaching when he kicked our asses, taking credit when he lost was just bizarre.

Each year we get better, get stronger, get faster, get mentally tougher.  Look how we respond, all year, to adversity.  Even in the games we lost, we got knocked down and came off the canvas, still swinging.

Each year Ole Piss gets weaker as Orgeron's kids leave and Dales are playing more and more.  The contrasts of our programs' fates is stark for anyone with a brain at all.

No Coach is perfect, and frick you if you think they should be.  Something that is obvious in hindsight was not obvious in the stress of the moment, and any stupid frick can sit in the stands and say...."hey, that play didn't work!  What are you, a moron?"

Look at the end result.  Did we win, do we show improvement, not just week to week but season to season?

This team plays in this years' toughest Division in College Football, maybe the toughest ever.  We are going to be ranked in the top ten, and beat 5 ranked teams.  The two losses were against teams ranked number 1 either when we played, or shortly after, and we got fricked in both by Officials.  We will be better next year.  If that is not enough for you, go frick yourself, you really DO have unrealistic expectations.

Speaking of that, I sure would like to know how pass efficiency rating works, given the fact that:

NCAA Quarterback Rating Formula
(National Collegiate Athletic League)

a = (Comp/Att) * 100
b = (TDs/Att) * 100
c = (Int/Att) * 100
d = Yards/Att

QB Rating = a+(3.3*b)-(2*c)+(8.4*d)

If anyone needs to be convinced concerning Bobby Petrino, they need look no further than last Saturday night.

We had every conceivable card in the deck stacked against us.  Critical game on the road in a traditionally difficult location with an intense crowd and an emotionally charged team playing for a fallen teammate.  We got their absolute best shot.

And we should have lost that game.  If you deny that, you've got your head in the sand.  We should have lost.  But we overcame.

If you are presented a scenario in which Team A holds the ball for an entire quarter longer than their opponent, converts for a first down 70% of the time they are faced with a conversion situation, forces three turnovers, and is penalized half as much as their opponent, who you pick as the winner?

State held the ball 14:48 longer than we did.

They were 9-20 on third down.  But they were 4-5 on fourth down.  That's 13-20 of 20 drives kept alive.  But remember the running into the punter penalty on Humphrey?  That's another fourth down in a stoppage situation.  14-20.  70%.

They had three penalties to our eight.  Eight mfricking penalties.

What is the win percentage of Team B, given that scenario?  20%?  On the road in the SEC?  10%?  5%?

And we fricking won that game.  On our third fricking opportunity to do so.  This team really, truly believes in itself, and will not quit, and that is a direct reflection on its coach.  To Starkville with some sneaking up.  Bring it the frick on, Tigers.

I don't give a frick about ever meeting Petrino or shaking his hand.  I'd rather not take the time out of his or my day.  All I care about is seeing our team kick ass.

The folks who wanted to keep Nutt don't care about wins and losses.  They care about feeling like one of the cool kids.  Having access and bragging about it.  Affirmation of self-importance they can't get from everyday life.

For those who think Nutt is a good Christian man, I hope Jesus shows up at your door with a 2 by 4.

Guess I was unaware that the haters were making a bunch of noise these days.

There are a ton more just like this one:

thought it was a piss poor job of coaching run the ball and let them tie the game then run the ball and leave the game in the hands of a true freshman kicker at 40yds when you have and allamerican qb and great wrs all over the field.  that was why i we got rid of Hootie

There are a ton more just like this one.

If our defense was half as good as our offense..........

....we would be national champions this year.  We are scoring enough points, just allowing too many points to be scored against us.  Our defense is slow to get started each game and has not shown any real improvement as the season has progressed.  Yes, we have some really good players on defense and yes they have played well at times.  But they are inconsistent and just cannot be counted on. It's time for a change at the top.

Never mind the fact that the offense lost the Alabama game, and special teams and dubious calls largely affected the Dead Trees game.

Our defense has had one bad game all season, maybe 2, and we only lost one of them.

On the radio this morning, it was a non-stop bitch fest about our team and the defense.  Our defense that gave up 10 points against MSU in the second half and two overtimes combined.

Every.  Single.  Call. into the show this morning was bitching about the team.  Every.  Single.  One.

The hosts were bitching about our decision to play for the FG in the first overtime, as were several callers.
