Ooof, don’t do it Barry. UTSA is gonna be a better gig than losing with Bert.

Don’t sell him short.  It might be a clever twist on the “coach-in-waiting” theme.   Bert will soon lose/stroke/fat out of that job and if the timing is right they may need an interim who just might become permanent.

Illinois isn’t winning shit in anyone’s lifetime in the big 10.
UTSA was ranked this year and he will have better athletes on campus there and a better chance to move on.

Who moves up from Illinois? It’s a basement program. Hell, Indiana looks down on them in football.

football scoop says lunney is in illinois to talk to bert.
That’s…surprising.

Lunney was one of only two on-field coaches who sat through all 5 years of Bert and watched him dynamite the program with laziness, drunkenness, and piss poor assistant backfills. Maybe Morris just made Bert look like Knute Rockne by comparison, but I’m surprised he’d want to saddle up with Bielema again.

I get wanting a P5 coordinator job, but Illinois is P5 in name only at this point.

He was always a nice guy coaches got along with.  He was really soft on coaches when it came to family time, etc and valued relationships.

I'm sure they will give him a big raise as well.

I don't like Bert and thought he was a massive underachiever, but I can see why coaches that worked with him once might want to do it again.

Expectations at Illinois are LOW....

I figure it's more about getting out from under Taylor's shadow. With bert he would have to be the guy calling plays. Also it's pretty nice getting free money for however long the Beer experiment lasts. Excuse me Bert experiment

I'm a bit surprised Enos' name hasn't surfaced at U-ILL.

Has Bert ever hired a former assistant from one of his previous staffs? I don’t think he has.

He hired a few from Wisconsin when he came to Arkansas and most were either fired or left within a couple years. Since then I'm not so sure other than I'm pretty sure a couple former Arkansas players are on his staff at Illinois.

yea, I should have been more clear. I meant a guy on his staff who left and then came back to work for him. not going from job to another with Bert as hc, like Whisky to Arkie.

Well he last coached at UNC in 2015/2016 before resigning. I'm not saying they were joggernuts or anything but UNC did go to shit right after and then Mack Brown came back to the program. Brown and Chiz go way back.

I agree it is probably a good move for Lunney.  Yes, it is Illinois, but it is still a Big 10 OC position. It will help him in the long run, even if Bert is canned in 3 or 4 years.

Damn Bobby Petrino!!!  What the Hell was he thinking?
