So they leave in place the coach who recruits and supervises the guys who rape and otherwise assault or rape women.  And I think the BU AD still has a job today.  But they can the school president.

The only way BU doesn't come out of this looking like hypocrites is if the new guy they bring in fires Briles the first day he's there.

I can understand doing a top down approach to cleaning house if that is in fact the direction this is going. If you start at the bottom people will assume it goes higher (and they'll be right). If you start at the top you are admitting more or less to vague systemic issues which leaves a lot of wiggle room. This got placed in the presidents lap because they needed a head and essentially it was under his watch. You can fire the president and buy a little time while appearing to do something that looks important. Message: We care. Hiring a new president gives the appearance that action is being taken.

Hot tip Baylor...hire a woman. Better yet hire a minority lady with an ironclad reputation.

Of course, she'd need to give up the football play-off gig.

So, a problem exists within the athletic department (involving alleged cover-up of sexual assault by student athletes) that has been mishandled to the point where the university deems it necessary to fire its President/Chancellor?

From the NCAA website:
The concept of institutional control is at the center of the Model Division II Athletics Department document developed several years ago by the Division II Athletics Directors Association. That model, which is included in this chapter, has been revised several times over the years, but the core message has remained the same: Any athletics program must reflect the ideals of the institution it represents, and it is up to the athletics director to constantly inform the president (or the person to whom the athletics director reports) of all relevant developments within the program.

Is it BU's position that Starr was informed/aware of the situation and chose to cover it up? If so, are we to believe that the AD and HC were unaware?

This probably sums it up best:

“The feeling is if the board got rid of Art (Briles),” one source told Brown, “they’d be sitting in a $300 million mausoleum instead of that new football stadium.”

It's amazing there's not a thread with this title.

To me, this is like if Penn State had axed its president and left Sandusky and Paterno in place.

Speaking of which, BU has hired the same law firm as PSU.
