A great signing by the Cards, filling several needs at once.  See ya Dex.
5/$82M though...wow.

I refuse to believe that the Cubs are sitting pat with a Jay/Almora CF.
I'm starting to think that's the plan, at least to start. See once and for all if Almora is a starter or a bench player.

Maybe so.  Having Heyward as an option to slide over to CF is a nice insurance policy.  Schwarber, Zobrist, Jay, Szczur, Bryant and Coghlan available to play OF should prevent a major drop off if Almora flames out.

FO viewed Almora as untouchable last year. So they think he's going to be really good. Plus he's a defensive wizard. They are done with bats. Looking everywhere for cost controlled pitching.

The whole Jay thing is just 🤔.  I keep expecting Theo to turn him around and get Trout and Kershaw with one trade.

Call me crazy, but I want nothing to do with Kershaw for what it would cost in players/money.  I expect the Cubs to go for more of a Teheran type in a trade and let Bosio work his magic, ala Arrieta.

The rotation going forward for the Cubs gets interesting after this season.  Jake likely will be gone next year.  Montgomery's development as a SP is a big key.  If he succeeds as a #3, then you'll have Lester/Hendricks/Montgomery as a great foundation with Cease waiting in the wings.  The money will definitely be there to spend in FA.

Trevor Clifton is a strong possibility for the rotation in 2018. FO will make a run at all of those big free agents in 18. Hopefully the Jap follows through and foregos big money to come to the States next year.

Otani is saying he still wants to come despite lack of guaranteed money. Cubs are expected to be a strong contender.

Dodgers committed almost $200MM to Turner and Jansen. This is so ridiculously out of hand.

If you're going to act like St Louis is such a despicably racist fan base, might want to stop calling Otani "the Jap."

The "word" was that the Dodgers were supposedly being budget conscious with lux tax concerns.
Guess they weren't actually too worried about it.

Attempted chess move and they completely caved.  Pussies.

Those groups will switch between Round A and Round B for 2018, and will continue to alternate as such through the life of the new CBA.

How do the Cardinals keep getting these competitive balance picks?  They must not take attendance or merchandise revenue into account at all.

Cubs on the verge of an incentive laden deal with Tyson Ross. Visiting Wrigley this weekend. Could be a major steal.

The longer it takes for Edwin Encarnacion to sign anywhere, the more and more I get my hopes up.
Mo has been pretty tight-lipped about it and has repeated that they're committed to Carp at 1st.
It's starting to sound calculated, almost. His camp has claimed they want 3-4 years at a "good AAV." We'll see.

As long as it is in I give laden I am on board.  The guy practically had his arm fall off.  The upside is huge, though.

America's Team signs defensive badass Ender Inciarte to an extension worth $30 million over 6 years - the last of which is a $9 million team option.  Assuming Ender stays healthy, the Braves should end up with between $50 and $120 million in surplus value over the life of the deal.

Joey Bats staying in Toronto.  Wil Myers back to SD.  Duffy back to the Royals.
Tyson Ross to the Rangers, which is a really interesting pickup.

Cubs still looking for back end starters.  Cards still need a starter and a big bat.
