Not just saying this as a Cubs fan, but MLB is getting back to awesome like it was 15+ years ago.

I really think being spoonfed Yanks/Sox by ESPN for so many years turned a lot of fans off, particularly in the Midwest.  Having strong teams like the Royals, Indians, Tigers and Cubs to go along with the Cards is great for the game.  The Chicago/StL rivalry may soon get as hot as NY/Boston in the 2000s if it's not already there.

Joey Bats staying in Toronto.  Wil Myers back to SD.  Duffy back to the Royals.
Tyson Ross to the Rangers, which is a really interesting pickup.

Cubs still looking for back end starters.  Cards still need a starter and a big bat.
Starter maybe.  Big bat definitely.  Is Moss still out there?

Dodgers get INF Logan Forsythe from the Rays for pitcher De Leon.  Forsythe can play.

Man, if he's at all healthy, Cubs could have a seriously badass bullpen.

Greg Holland leaves KC for the Rockies.  Colorado is going to be pretty damn good.

Major League Baseball is ordering the St. Louis Cardinals' top two draft picks in the 2017 draft to be awarded to the Houston Astros, and for the Cardinals to pay the Astros $2 million within 30 days.

The announcement came Monday, after MLB completed its investigation regarding the breach of the Astros' baseball operations database by a former Cardinals' employee, scouting director Chris Correa.

Wow, that's actually a pretty stiff penalty, and Houston will load up this year, again.

Looking at the prospects they got for Garcia and the Fowler signing, I'm guessing they had a pretty good idea of what was coming.

I'm not sure why folks are claiming it's light when it is their top two picks and they also had to dish out money to the Astros to cover the value of those picks as well. It's a substantial blow, for sure, just one that it appears the Cardinals were preparing to manage.
I mean, it was pretty much determined that this wasn't some organizational scheme. Correa got sent to prison for four years and is banned from baseball for life.

Brandon Phillips to the Braves.  At first I was thinking WTF Atlanta, but he is in the last year of his deal and Cincy is paying most of the money.

And didn't have to give up any prospects in the deal.

and it looks like the recently acquired Sean Rodriquez will be out most of the season. This gives the Braves a 2B for this year and then Albies should be ready to take over in 2018.

Pretty sure they had to give up a couple of prospects.  The reds are paying nearly all of his salary.

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-hot-stove-trades-braves-acquire-brandon-phillips-in-deal-with-reds/

The return to the Reds is left-handed pitcher Andrew McKirahan and right-handed pitcher Carlos Portuondo. McKirahan, 27, missed last season after having Tommy John surgery. In 2015, he appeared in 27 games for the Braves, posting a 5.93 ERA and 1.83 WHIP. He has a 2.20 career ERA in the minors, but most of that is in the lower levels. Portuondo, 29, signed with the Braves from out of Cuba prior to the 2016 season. Between Class-A Advanced and Triple-A, he appeared in 17 games, pitching to a 3.63 ERA and 1.36 WHIP.

Neither pitcher is considered a prospect and with the Reds assuming most of Phillips' salary, it's pretty clear this was just the Reds clearing a roster spot

I imagine the Reds just want to plug Peraza in at 2B sooner, rather than later.
