Which Razorback great would you add to the 2017 squad?
« on: May 31, 2017, 05:01:10 PM »
I saw a great article today asking "if 2017 Cowboys could bring back a legend from the past, who'd you pick?"  He used as the base crop the Cowboys HoF players, the Ring of Honor players, and some recent retirees for a group of 22.  This team has zero pass rush so I passed on Deion and Bob Lilly and the Manster for Charles Haley over D'Marco Ware.

Anyway, it was a fun read and exercise, and most of us are tired of talking about Kathy Griffin, combines on bridges, and fucking Russians.

Who would you add that would make the biggest impact or fill the biggest need on the 2017 squad?  Choose anyone from any year.

We need a kicker.  Steve Little would save our bacon.  DBs...Atwater would be nice.  QB and leadership...Bill Montgomery, but Britennum brought home the NC.  And Martine Bircher could get everyone a deal on tires.  We need some pass rush, so I'm going Dan Hampton.

DMac seems like the easiest answer. Would loved to have seen him in a competent offense.

We need a tone setter on defense and Atwater was never afraid to wreck a muthafucka.

Hell, I'll go with a player we've seen recently. Martrell Spaight... people like to give Trey Flowers a lot of the credit from our great 2014 defense, but Spaight made everything happen, really need that defensively.

If we're just talking football I'd take Billy Ray Smith Jr.

Given the time of year I'd rather see Nick Schmidt or Ryne Stanek available to pitch this weekend.

We're on the same wavelength but I'd take Shawn Andrews.  Well, I'd really take Jason Peters and move him from tight end to tackle.   ::)

On the other side, Atwater.   For the tone-setting reason noted above.

tex...cool thread.  It got me thinking.

One little gripe, though.  Jon Brittenum was a dandy, that is for sure, but Fred Marshall was the QB in '64.

We need defense.  Our O is going to be at least OK.  Our D last year was historically, disgracefully bad.

Atwater is one of the very few people in FB history that changed the way the game is played.  A FS coming up and supporting the run like a SS?  No way, until Atwater.  He would solidify things back there, aid in run support so that breaking the LOS doesn't automatically lead to a TD, and be an intimidator.

Whoever our 4 best DL were. Get a pass rush and it makes your DB's 50% better than they actually are.

My apologies to Freddy Marshall.   Another Alzheimer's moment... shit gets muddied up.  And I just rewatched that doc on the 64 team s couple of weeks ago.

Wasn't his nickname "Burnt Toast"?  He'd fit right in with our secondary.
I'll take Dan Hampton for the win.  We currently have nobody on D that makes an offense consider them.  Danimal would be that dude.
If I got a second or third choice, I'd throw in Billy Ray Smith, Jr or Dennis Winston.

So, all bullshit aside, I'd possibly pick a great defensive guy.  How about good ole Carlos Hall?

But yeah, Dan Hampton would be awesome too.  Although in today's game, I'm not sure he'd be as dominant.

How about ole Jamaal Anderson?
