That's really cool. I've never hiked at all but I just love the idea of a long thru-hike. The AT thru-hike I'm watching on youtube is a user called Raw Alignment. She is a super crunchy self-love vegan and this is her first thru-hike. The PCT channel is called Homemade Wanderlust and she's amazing. She's already hiked the AT and you can just tell she loves it all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9s5a35fzvg
LOL. So my boy accompanied me to Abilene this week so that he could help me with my annual quality assurance checks which take 8 to 10 hours spread over 2 evenings. I'm paying him to help. So we flew into DFW and drove to Abilene from there. We go up to the Avis desk at DFW and walk over to the Preferred area. They had put us in a white Chevy Suburban. So we were looking through the Select and Go area and saw this. He's like, oh dad, we gotta get this. So the Avis peeps did an even exchange for me and off we drove in a Nissan 370Z. My boy is 15 and will get his license in January. He wanted to drive around the parking lot at the center so I let him. He informed me that he would like to have this car as his first car, if, you know, I didn't mind. BAHAHAHAHA. I told Mom and she was like, "Um, NO." But Mom, it does zero to 60 in 6 seconds. We're heading back to Dallas on Thursday morning to hang out for a couple of days and go to Top Golf and Six Flags amongst other things. Just us 2 dudes. Definitely a nice trip for Dad. He's probably like, EH.
Got dropped off at tcu volleyball team camp...
Wait, what?
Dropped off as in I drove my kid to tcu and she checked in to the camp for high school volleyball teams and I drove home. Would you like a diagram?
My kid is five years old today. Starts kindergarten in three weeks. He's obsessed with trash and recycling. When I tell this to people they say "maybe one day he'll innovate some incredible new way for us to deal with all our garbage." Nah, he just wants to drive the recycling truck around town and sort the recycling.
Take him to the landfill and he can see it all...well sans recycling.
Last week we went to the Fayetteville recycling center for a tour. He loved it. And it was actually a really interesting tour. I'd recommend it for kids of any ages, and the folks at recycling seemed really happy to have us come out. Here's his typical setup when he plays "trash" which like 90% of his solo playtime.
My 16 year old was told by a White County judge today that she will get to see what their county lock up looks like the next time they catch her doing 95 mph.
Last night my 7-year old's softball team lost to Texas in whatever classification she plays in's World Series. They had gone undefeated through the district and state tournaments and had won their first two games of the Series. I walk over to talk to her as she comes out of the dugout and see she is crying. I start telling her the normal stuff about how "good she played" and how "we'll have a chance to play them again if we keep winning" and she looks up at me confused and says "Mama said I couldn't get a snow-cone". That clown couldn't have cared less that they lost. She was just upset that she wasn't getting something at the concession stand.
I coached some pretty high-level 7 and 8 year olds
Bless their hearts.
That looks way more organized than my 6 year olds play time... which apparently consists of pulling out every toy he owns. FWIW Bruder makes a few toys that are waste/recycling related and they hold up better than the others my son has tried.
Those Bruder trucks are nice. We get most of our toys from thrift stores and yard sales. Maybe we'll come across one someday. lol
My wife purchased all of ours at TJ Maxx which was significantly cheaper than normal.
