He genuinely cared about his players. He didn't get us into trouble with the NCAA. He made Ole Piss his bitch.

He is, by nearly universal firsthand acclaim, a genuinely great guy who works his ass off trying to succeed.

But he failed here, so bitter old losers will talk shit about him personally for the rest of their lives.

He gave it the best he had. It was clearly several orders of magnitude below what we needed. There’s not much more to say than that, but of course people will. It can be greatly rewarding to tie your self-worth to the success or failure of someone you don’t know, but have invented a terrible image of in your mind.  When you can’t find a lot of worth in yourself, it’s always easier to find self-worth somewhere else.

This is basically the fact driving the majority of our culture these days.

Nailed it. Everyone I know that’s ever met him has nothing but good things to say about him personally. He just didn’t get results here and some people who lost influence under Long took their chance to get it back.

I think he'll land on his feet and be fine - and coach again, sooner than later. I hope so, anyhow.

 BB, for all the good stuff.
Land on his feet? He’s landing in a big ass pile of cash, somewhere between $5.9 million and $12 million depending on the reports. Land on his feet is something you hope your buddy who got laid off from Acxiom does. Also, nice guys finish last in this business.

He showed a lot of class and courage for deciding to do the presser after he'd just been fired.  That's something rare.  Most coaches probably would've told Peoples to fuck off and pay me my money.  But he went up there and took it like a man, talked about the great passion of hog fans, and even gave a final 'woopig.'

I hope for the best for him and his family.

Dear Bret,

Thanks for bending over and taking your medicine like a man and not insisting on going in the locker room after being fired you fat, dumb fucking piece of everlasting shit.  Very Sincerely Yours, NOVAhog

Ironic you would say this.

I hate to break it to you, but he did go into the lockerrroom after receiving the news. The first the players heard about his firing was in a prayer he voiced.

I admire him for what he did tonight.  Doesn't mean I want him as my coach, but I don't dislike him.  I prefer to dislike the people that kept him in charge when it was clear 4 years ago he couldn't coach a team in the SEC to 10 wins.  We basically suffered because they were led to believe our situation was much worse 5 years ago than it actually was.  And THAT situation was made worse by the first guy that was fired, which is ultimately why he was fired.

Back to back shutouts of OM and LSU
Ass raping Texass in a bowl game
Personally flying back with Ragnow after the death of his father
His seemingly genuine feelings toward his players and their future in life

He seems like a great guy that I would love to have a beer or 12 with, but in the end didn't win enough. He was paid handsomely to win games, didn't, and is now getting paid handsomely in severance. I wish him and his family the best

I wish him the best.  We move on.

Bert and Jeff are yankees,  they came to Arkansas and fucked us good. That what yankees like to do.  Its simple.  I have nothing good to say about Bert, except he was smart enough to come here and get rich.  He fucked us for 5 years.   :-[

Well said.  Nice guy, didn't work out, glad to see us move on, wish him all the best.  But the personal attacks have made Woopig almost unreadable recently.  The fat jokes are just plain lazy.   I can't hate a guy for trying his best and coming up short.  Same reason I hate seeing players personally attacked, for the most part they are trying their best, but often lack the ability to perform to the level we expect as fans of the program.

Maybe the recent lack of success has given me some perspective, but as someone at the top of the slide on the downhill side of life, I've realized I can't let 18-21yo kids control my happiness.

Spot on.

I like him better now that he's no longer coaching and only drawing a fat severance from my University.

Certainly no personal vitriol like I had (have) for Nutt when he was finally sacked.

I can give you a long list of positives about Bielema.

He did provide a much better foundation and bedrock of recruiting than almost any coach has done here.  The talent development was deplorable, unfortunately, but in the end, we all just need to realize that JJ Watt's success is because of JJ Watt because that is what Bielema tried to build that rep off of.

In a nut shell:
Nutt recruited guys with SWAC offers.
Petrion recruited guy with legit offers but landed few.
Bielema has landed a host of kids with legit SEC offers... and not KY offers only.

He just didn't do jack shit with them once they got to campus.

Because the media liked him, he kept the program in a "popular" light, although increasingly forgotten.

Well, I guess I was wrong.  I can't think of much else positive.
He ran his mouth and couldn't back it up.
He had no clue about Southeast football competitiveness.
He acted like an oaf.
He had no stability on his staff and increasingly dipped lower and lower in to the dregs of the coaching pool.

You are what your record shows that you are at some point.

Pretty obvious this job is tougher than Wisconsin.  Thinking about it, Bielema reached his level of incompetence here.  Peter Principal and all that.

Just ask the Axis

i believe everything that happened yesterday was scripted for bielema and cromer peoples earlier this week and they were simply carrying out their duties as they had been told to..  every detail from his press conference, to her press conference, to the story line given about how the firing went down.  bert certainly did not give off any body language or facial expressions of a coach that had just gotten told he was fired 10 minutes earlier.  he came off more like a politician giving a speech he'd rehearsed in the mirror 10 times and answered questions like he had been given a script of what questions were coming and how to answer them.  felt the exact same about cromer peoples press conference.

That might very well be how it happened.  Just glad it is over, now just waiting for the new hire.

Scripted or not, the press conference was classy.

Don't waste your time with the mouth breathers.
