No, it isn't.

If Gafford goes 17, holding out a year for the chance at possibly getting top 5 money (which is far from any sort of guarantee) is not as lucrative as you think, when you take into account that he will be one year behind reaching that second contract. Nevermind that he can develop at a higher rate without practice and training restrictions as a professional. It's a no-brainer... and it's why if he gets told he's going to be a first rounder, he will go.
Just like how Portis did when he left.

I’ve never experienced anyone working at CFA being a jerk or rude but yesterday I encountered a guy in the drive thru who was not only rude but a jerk. When I finally had my order and he didn’t even say my pleasure I yelled “thanks for being a jerk” and drove off.

Why are you so tedious? :)

I don't think it's as much tedium as it is dickheadedness.

I don't think Gafford goes 17, BUT, let's say he comes back and goes 5 next year. There's a pretty big difference.

Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin' right here, alright. We got 4:11 Posi-trac out back, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bored over 30, 11 to 1 pop-up pistons, turbo-jet 390 horsepower. We're talkin' some fuckin' muscle.

Unlesss you think he's going to bust, 1 year of lost wages (1 year further away from a second and much more lucrative contract) and restricted development over that year is not worth taking a risk at a potential guaranteed 2 year/$4 million dollar deal.
Just my view of it.

Scanning through these numbers I noticed that a lottery picks first contact is twice as large as the 17 picks second contract.  So, in terms of contracts he can make more in 3 years of getting paid if he comes back than 4 years of getting paid if he leaves early.

If someone smarter than me runs those numbers I’d bet it’s a sizable difference and with one less year in the league.

Can someone refresh my memory:   Was Bobby Portis projected to be a first-rounder after his freshman year?
Why did he come back?  Loved that helmet?
Just googled - he was the 22nd pick in '15 with a salary of 1.4 million.   This after being SEC POY.
Will he get big bucks at some point, or be out of the league by then (I don't follow the NBA.)

He's been inconsistent, but occasionally leads the team in scoring.  Some days he'll get you 19, other days 4.  Only started a couple of times.  Also been in disciplinary trouble.  His team also sucks.

By the time Gafford matures out, he's going to be a huge man. A bigger and stronger Camby maybe. Last year in HS he was skinny as hell and almost clumsy like tall people that haven't grown into their height. This year he looks strong as an ox and running like a deer.

Last year during the Arkansas HS State Finals week, we were staying in the same hotel as El Dorado. I had heard of this 6’11” kid, but I figured he was probably 6’ 8” until he got on the elevator with us. He was definitely not just 6’8.”  He didn’t have a dominating game, but you could see the potential. It is amazing how much better he is just a year later.

I honestly think he’s gone. I think one more year of college makes him a top 5 pick next year, if we bring in Corliss or another big man specialist who will help him sharpen his post up skills. Also, somebody might convince Coach Anderson that every half court possession needs to work through Gafford as well. It appears to me maybe that MA has finally recognized the need for this.

You and Colboar must be back together again, congratulations. Gaffords not going to get a 4mm dollar deal at 17 though. Maybe you should learn to click a link.

Top 20 get's a $4M rookie contract. If he develops like some here think he will in 2 years, then his next contract makes that look like chump change. If he doesn't piss a drop he still makes more money in 2 years than a majority of Americans will make in their career.

Or come back and get 2yr/10mil and be more polished for the 2nd contract.

You do work for the government, don't you? 1.77 is closer to 3.5 for 2 year, idiot.

As a fan, I'd be all for that. I'm just not sure the risk of injury or regression is worth it.

I may be wrong, but I read the chart that 1.77 was for last years draft (17/18) and that next years draft would be 2.11.

Fuck if I know. I'm not a big NBA fan, but my assumption is that (17/18) is this year's rookie class, i.e. drafted last year.

There's nothing to get across to me. I get it, he's 95% likely gone. I can only say what I'd do even if I'd be a stupid SOB for doing it according to some/most on here.

I think 17-18 NBA wise is this year’s rookies.

If Gafford leaves early he’s leaving a lot of money on the table.  I’d even say he’s getting fucked if he leaves early.  I’m not sold that his choice is so cut and dry.

I don't think there's a right/wrong answer to this question. I guess it comes down to your risk tolerance and how much self confidence you have.
