After that 5-0 shellacking of Saudi Arabia, they're in pretty good shape in group A right now.

Depends on how Mo Salah looks for Egypt tomorrow morning vs Uruguay.
It's looking like if Russia can't get a win or draw vs Egypt on Tuesday, they're going to be in pretty good shape going into their final group match vs Uruguay.

I’ve never experienced anyone working at CFA being a jerk or rude but yesterday I encountered a guy in the drive thru who was not only rude but a jerk. When I finally had my order and he didn’t even say my pleasure I yelled “thanks for being a jerk” and drove off.

I'm a liverpool fan so I kind of just want him to rest and heal. But the WC is such a big deal I don't want him to miss out either. Always sucks when someone gets hurt right before

Group A is, statistically, by far the weakest overall group.  Uruguay is, on paper, by far the strongest of the four teams in the group.

I don't think anybody had Russia winning that game by five goals.  Many were speculating that they could be the first host team to ever lose its World Cup opener.  At this point, you'd have to think they're in a decent position for at least second place, but as already pointed out a lot will depend on how they do against Egypt.

Since I know you were wondering, host nations are now 16-0-6 in their World Cup openers.  This was the second-biggest win by a host country in the opener, only behind Italy's 7-1 win over the USA in 1934.

Saudi Arabia is now 0-9-2 in their last 11 World Cup matches, with their last win coming in 1994 (1-0 over Belgium).

I had lunch today in an authentic Mexican restaurant and there were probably 10 TVs in the place and they all had Soccer Futbol on.  Not one had the US Open golf.

Consider yourself lucky.  I guess I'm rare, but I just can't fathom sitting around watching golf on TV.  I've tried.  Just can't do it.

Golf is a horrible sport on TV, other than the Major tournaments and usually only the final round if the outcome is still in question.

Jose Gimenez saved Uruguay's blushes late today in a 1-0 win over a Salah-less Egypt team.

I guess one now has to wonder whether Salah will be playing at all at the tournament?

I think most expected Salah to sit today, regardless. Rest up against the best opponent, take advantage of the rest vs the two weakest squads in the group.

It was Egypt's manager's comments over the past few days that suggested he was going to play.
I thought it curious he didn't sub in late. Either he had a setback, or his playing today was never the plan at all.

On paper, definitely the best matchup of the group stage.  I'd say the second-best looks like England vs. Belgium.

Defending European champions Portugal already up 1-0 on an early penalty by Ronaldo.

Diego Costa with the equalizer.

Oh shit, Spain almost put in a second.

Portugal is looking like a big 12 football team, gonna have to win high scoring games, their defense is suspect, if Pepe would have gotten up he could have helped instead of flopping like a pussy. Also, Diego-Costa is a man, that goal was impressive

Ronaldo strikes again.
This time, against the run of play.
2-1

From the Telegraph's live blog of the game:

Quote
There was  a VAR check to see if Ronaldo was offside when the ball was played - he wasn't but had been earlier. I suppose that's payback to all United fans' hubris for laughing at Loris Karius. The shot, low to his right, sped along the ground but De Gea had time to get down on one knee to form a barrier. The shot split his fingers, hit his leg and went in at the right post.
