IANAS but battery technology sucks and is limiting a lot of innovation.
Or if we can ever figure out the hydrogen fuel cell. It would also be nice if people could get over their phobia of nuclear power and actually look at the facts and not the hyperbole.
That's embarrassing. Looks like Josh Duggar when his parents asked him to babysit.
Anyone know anyone that's used those solar shingles? If I ever build myself a house it's going to have a kickass solar system and hydronic heating/cooling system. Using the ground as a heat exchanger is so genius that I can't believe I don't see more houses being built with a system.
As you would probably guess the shingles aren't nearly as efficient compared to the panels. However, I've heard decent things as far as the cost trade off (added cost vs regular shingles compared to money saved on electric bill). As far as geothermal, it really all depends on how deep you have to bury the pipes. If the ground you build on has good thermal properties, not using it would be somewhat negligent.
Can our Admin change the thread title to Austin Allen's Cock? If so, then put me down for 10 inches, at least.
The wife and I are seriously thinking about the shingles if we ever have to replace the roof on this place. We run about $700-1000 a month electric bill in the summer and probably $300 or so from here out. If it can put a good dent into that, it might be worthwhile to do it if it can save us maybe 4k a year or so. We have also thought about doing the wall battery pack thing to help with the night time costs and in the event SHTF, we would be good on electricity.
If/when we have to replace the roof, I'd go that route myself. Not sure if I'd spend the extra on a complete Tesla Roof system or not.
How well do they handle the hail?
Some of those European islands use windmills to power a hydrolysis or something process that separates hydrogen for storage in generators that power the island towns when the wind stops blowing. If everyone goes wind/solar, like some weird California fantasy, eventually disposal of used batteries and panels and mining for new materials is going to become an issue. Tesla's million-mile battery supposedly uses far less cobalt than the current models.Anyone know anyone that's used those solar shingles? Speaking of windmills....all those big ass windmills out in Kansas how the fuck do they capture energy and transfer it? That’s baffling to me. I don’t understand how it’s captured and transported to homes
Same way a hydro electric dam does. The wind (water) turns the turbine around. The more it turns, the more electricity it makes. Then you run it thru a few transformers, and tie it into the electrical grid (power poles).
yeah that’s over my head and I need in lay terms.
every new home here has solar powered shingles or panels. I’m running on some sorta huge water pump to heat and cool my place and I average in winter and summer $30 tops. The highest it was ever was $34 this summer. It’s fucking awesome. Speaking of windmills....all those big ass windmills out in Kansas how the fuck do they capture energy and transfer it? If I give power from My solar panels to a power company, I'm charging $500 a month, I need to make a profit just like they do. Besides, when they get power from someone are they lowering customers bills who don't have solar?
My house is 1400 sq ft of completely paid off living Been thinking about the practicality of adding solar panels on the roof that faces due South and whether it is worth it. The most my lectric bill ever gets is 180 bucks in extreme summer.

Seems interesting.
