Objective? Or is that outdated? I've used the same resume format since 2001. Still works like a charm.

I wouldn’t worry about the length. If you have a good history that isn’t filled with buzzwords and bullshit then the length becomes less of an issue. My resume is a little over two pages.

I would also move the education down to the bottom. I assume you're applying for engineering jobs.  They already know you have an engineering degree. Let them get right into your experience which is what’s going to get you the job.

If you would like I can send you my resume just for comparison. Sometimes it’s nice to see what others do even if it’s only to get ideas for fonts and structure.

I like the relocating education idea.  And yea, I'd love to see it.  I welcome all of the advice I can get.

Objective? Or is that outdated? I've used the same resume format since 2001. Still works like a charm.

This is another one of those things that seems to be highly subjective.  Ultimately I shied away from it because most of the engineering resume examples I looked at didn't use the format.

After 10 seconds I gave up on trying to figure out how to PM you an attachment.  So I'll attach it here.

I stripped out the obvious personal information but this is my format.

Edit: My wife has an engineering degree and works as an engineer and her resume is formatted a bit different.

I'll check these out asap, thanks!  I already had a lot to do today but I woke up this morning to an email attempting to schedule a third interview with a company I'm really interested in.  It's been awhile and I had basically given up, but now I'm gonna double down and refocus my efforts in that direction.

no. I still use it and have since 2001. The thing is every resume format is different depending on the industry.

Once in Yamsylvania, we had the potato famine. Which did not upset us because, hey, we eat only yams! Then we realized it is better to starve on potatoes than eat yams. We became so poor we had to raise monkeys for their fur. OK, we raised them for their pleasant smell and many tasty parasites. The kids today, tell them about parasite stew, and they look at you like you're some kind of nutty man, crazed from yam poisoning.

I hate the objective tag because it’s always the same drivel from everyone. And it’s a lie.

Ultimately the reason I didn't go that way is it just feels kind of grade school to me.  "Check yes or no" type shit.  If you're reading someone's resume you already know what their objective is.  And if you don't, you're too stupid to be in the position of hiring people.

I disagree with moving your education down the page. It's the first thing I looked for. You worked hard for it and not everyone has a degree.

Listing objectives is a waste of time and space.

Creamy skin, straight teeth, curly hair, amazing breasts...not for me, for my children. The Schrutes produce very thirsty babies.

I can only surmise that it's because people seem to be cooling off on the whole pandemic thing, but my requests for interviews have increased greatly in the last 5 days or so.  And today about 6 p.m. I realized I had a message from the "Human Resources Director" at the company I've been speaking with the longest.  She "wanted to chat with me" for a minute.  Up until now I've only spoken with engineering people.  That almost has to mean she wants to propose/discuss an offer, doesn't it?

Do your professional educations, registrations, and continuing education still get used near the top of the resumer (sp) ?

I would say no.  If you are applying for a "professional" job where a college degree is required then there is no reason to put that first.  Same goes for any qualification requirements.

I always think it is best to tell them specifically what you have done with the goal of letting them know why you would be a good fit for their company and the specific role they are trying to fill.  Most engineering and corporate finance/accounting roles want to see what you have done and who you have worked for and place very little value in where you got your degree.  The fact is the UofA is not really any better or worse than LSU if you're applying for "business" type roles and the same can be said for LSU vs Mississippi State if talking about something like engineering.

With that said, investment bankers are douches and the above does not apply.  They want college transcripts from people with 20-30 years of experience.  I politely end the interview if you place importance in going through my transcripts from 20 years ago.

And for the love of God please don't use buzz words in your resume.

When I took Microelectronics II, the guy that taught the class for years came in to talk to us one day.  He's still with the university, but he's also now the president of the IEEE power electronics society.  He spends so much time on the road that he can't actually teach anymore.

So up until this presentation, I had no idea what a player the UofA is in the world of power electronics.  If that's what you wanna be, it's near the very top of the places you want to be.  But the biggest thing I carried away from the day was this.  He said that the power electronics department made more money for the university than any other field, and as such, it was also the most heavily funded program at the school.  (Or something very similar to that, anyway.  This was about two years ago now.)  Bigger than chickens.  Bigger than business.  Bigger than anything.  I remember thinking "um, why doesn't this get more press?"

no. I put only education at the top...professional certs, licensing I put towards the bottom under skills but finance is completely different design resume than other fields
