Roofing/Siding recommendations
« on: April 29, 2020, 04:13:47 PM »
We sustained roof and siding damage from the storm that hit Easter night.

Anyone have any recommendations for contractors in the central Arkansas area?  I'm just outside of Benton.

The very pants I was returning!

I saw this a few days ago but we were in the middle of having our roof replaced and I wanted to wait until it was finished to reply.  We ended up using Riley Hays roofing and we are extremely happy with how it looks and dealing with them in general.  We had a couple of quotes (that were amazingly close) but this guy called me after looking at our roof and asked me a lot of questions about what we wanted/expected.  He measured our attic area and determined we need another Whirlybird on top to help with the attic cooling and suggested replacing the 2 existing 12" units with 14" and adding another 14".  I'm hoping it will help since we struggle a little in the middle of the summer keeping a bonus room upstairs cool.

They showed up when they said they would and it took them the better part of 3 days to do it.  They did a good job of cleaning up and there were no surprises with the final bill.  I can PM you the contact info if you decide you might want to try them.

Is there any particular reason why the response I posted earlier today got deleted?

I guess I accidentally deleted it some how. One Quarter is on it

No big deal, just making sure I didn't do anything wrong.  I PM'd Pigtacular and asked if he still needed a recommendation.

Thanks for the recommendation.   Did you get Malarkey shingles?

Anyone put a metal roof over shingles?

After my divorce, I moved into an older ranch style house that has some really cool old-school late 70's touches. But it's time for a new roof and I'm going to be as cost efficient as possible as I plan on selling this place in five years when my son graduates high school.

The house is brown on brown on brown and I'd use a carmel or light brown metal roof or just go to a heritage shingle. I could probably do the shingle job myself since the pitch is like 4:12. But I really don't want to do the job as I would have to strip the old and redo the tar paper. Meh. Just seeing what others have done. This house is on 8 acres with no back yard neighbor for 2 miles and a lot of privacy.

The iconic 'alien' is to us what we are to apes: small, pale, big headed, and with unfathomable technology. We even abduct them for medical experiments. Mind blown.

I was in...Sang Bang...Dang Gong...I was all over the place, a lot of places. I was with the Green Berets, Special Unit Battalions... Commando Airborne Tactics...Specialist Tactics Unit Battalion. Yeah, it was real hush hush. I was Agent Orange, Special Agent Orange, that was me.

I had metal put over shingles at my office about seven years ago. You can’t tell that it has shingles underneath and it is certainly less labor intensive to just overlay it.

Just offhand, what did that set you back?

Metal roofs look great until the first hail storm comes along and a lot of insurance companies will exclude cosmetic damage on metal roofs.  Make sure you double check when shopping for insurance.

It was about the same as architectural shingles. I did shop it a little. The first quote I got was four times what the guy who did it charged. I deal with with that all the time. Contractors pull up and see “porn star” on the sign and think they can stick it to you.

Anyone know anyone who's installed the Tesla solar shingles?

That's embarrassing.  Looks like Josh Duggar when his parents asked him to babysit.
