9th inning Game 2 against OSU wasn’t an error?

It shouldn’t have been, at least technically.  Given where they had him positioned about 4 feet onto the warning track, he had to make a quick sprint to a ball that was diving quickly.  If anything, it was a mental mistake in not letting the ball drop in front of him or at least attempt a short hop / body block.  


Also not accounted for in those stats above is number of pitches faced.  He does eat a decent amount of those. 

He's not perfect, but not sure Bohrofen is a better solution.  His numbers are similar except for OBP, which is more than 100 points lower and OPS, which is about 70 points lower.

I would like Gregory a lot more if he would just turn and walk back to the dugout when he watches the third strike go right down the middle.  The constant shock he displays at the Ump each and every time it happens just screams 8U select ball and drives me crazy.

Bohrofen has had a fraction of the plate appearances Gregory has, so his stats are going to be at one extreme or the other.

I get that the devil we know is better than the one we don't, but we've got two automatic outs in our lineup in Moore and Gregory right now. Moore isn't going anywhere due to the quality of his glove, but Gregory looks like a 9U batter who's not going to take the bat off his shoulder in his at bats.

I just want to pause and say what a golden age this is for us Hog fans.

Our three major sports are all winning programs, with head coaches that are respected by media, loved by the fanbase, and either hated or begrudgingly respected by opposing fans. There are no major scandals. We're in post-season play in all three sports, and we've got something to sustain the talk basically all year long (no more "when does ____season start?").

Things haven't been this good in a long time. It won't last, nothing does, but I'm going to enjoy it while it's here.

fyi - ticket fees are brutal. about $25 per ticket then tax after that.

fyi - cheapest ticket on Ticketmaster is listed at $90, that's up $30 from yesterday.

I think tickets will be more in demand this year with the SEC schools traveling. I would imagine teasip, blowu, and golden dome will travel, Stanford is probably too smart to do so and scared of the covid.

Gregory has 129 AB, Bohrofen has 92.   That's a pretty healthy fraction.
Gregory has 179 PA, Bohrofen has 106.  Not as healthy a fraction, but then again that's where OBP comes into play.

Gregory has a 30% strikeout rate, which is obviously most glaring.  Bohrofen is at 20%.   But Gregory's BB/K ratio is quite a bit better.   

His OBP for the full season is still the highest on the team, and he scores runs.  Using only NCAA tournament games is the true definition of a misleading sample size. 


And yes, I do get upset when he stands there like a statue with 2 strikes.
