Title: Here's the Server Story
Post by: SteveJ on October 09, 2011, 11:50:49 AM
I'm still waiting on the last $400...and that should hit Paypal today. I'll get the new server ordered tomorrow...it will be ready for us probably Wednesday. We have to copy everything from this server to that one, which will take a few hours. Need to get all of the right software installed on it as well, which can happen as soon as we get access to it.

Later in the week, we should be able to switch over to it. During the migration time, it takes a little while for all of the DNS servers on the internet to update and route traffic to the new server. Since we don't want people posting in two different places during that time, we'll take the board down here. I'll put instructions up on how to force your computer to go to the new server so hopefully downtime will be minimal for most.

Should be up and running on it a week from today.

I thought he sent out an email to members...said something about giving your bank account info to Woopig's contact in Nigeria. Should only take about 5 minutes.

OK, good. I gave him like $500 then. So glad it wasn't a scam like my stupid wife said.

Send a PM to Elvishog or LRhogfan.  They will tell you what you can do.

The new server has been purchased and work will begin on getting it all set up today/tonight at some point.  There will be a few times when the board has to be thrown into maintenance mode to grab files, so simmer down there pattycakes, it'll be back up when its up.

Nice work Verotik....

The server was provisioned way faster than we thought it would be. LRHogFan took care of getting it purchased and everything this afternoon...and Verotik has been working away to get it ready.

Me? I've been slaving at my desk at my new real job all day. No time for fun stuff like this.   :-\

Shit...Verotik's got the board up and running over there already. Going to see how much work it is to get the themes going. Either way, we might be on Merle (I guess) tomorrow. Or tonight...if he keeps busting ass and taking care of everything.

Title: Re: Here's the Server Story
Post by: SteveJ on October 11, 2011, 10:55:12 PM
It's up an running over there...Verotik's wrestling with the theme. I'd do it but I've been home a total of two hours at this point. Not feeling up to it.

Once everything's in place over there, we'll take this board down...take a copy of the database at that point and move it over. We've got to upgrade this one we're shutting down to smf 2.0 to make moving the database easy. 2.0 is running on the new server.

We'll bring the new board up shortly after that and change the ebays settings to route traffic to the new server. Sometimes that takes up to a day to resolve for everybody. But I'll replace the board with a page that says we've moved...which is what people will see until their dns resolves. On that page, I'll also do instructions for Windows people to force their computer to go to the new ip address for woopig.net. So you won't be down at all really.

Really should be sometime tomorrow. Wednesday at the latest. Even if we have to run some lame theme for a short time...we'll be on the new server.

It's not over yet, but thanks to all who have contributed so far...either technically or financially. You guys help keep my hobby moving along.

It's better than collecting stamps........

Obviously this isn't the theme we're going to go with. The real one needs some tweaks. But it's there for you to choose if you want.

Click Profile up top...then click Modify Profile...Look and Layout...click (change) out to the right there next to Core. Scroll down and choose Woopig4.

You'll see the tweaks I'm talking about.

I haven't looked into what causes it, but occasionally I run into a page that won't display any of the CSS while I'm at work.  Woopid is now one of those sites.  :suicide:  Fuck, if this is going to be this annoying, I'm going to have to find another way to waste my employer's time.  Hell, all I can see right now is text, smilies, and avatars on a white background.  I'm sure it's most likely the IT assholes here blocking something.

By messed up what do you mean?  It's not exactly like the previous theme, but very familiar for me.  Every other admin is sleeping in or working or hungover.  I might be able to help you find the Homepage button, but you have to ask nicely.

The biggest gripe is it's not showing previous posts or unread posts at the top. Actually, there's alot of blankness at the top. I use Chrome browser also, if that makes a difference.

The biggest gripe is it's not showing previous posts or unread posts at the top. Actually, there's alot of blankness at the top. I use Chrome browser also, if that makes a difference.
Well, I'm using Google Chrome, and those two things are showing up for me.  Are you on a PC or Mac, or are you using an iPad?

Have you tried the reboot option?

Awww, come on guys, it's so simple maybe you need a refresher course. It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads, and I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State.

So is the Woopig4 theme still messed up for everyone? Or is it just me?

I'll hang up and slam my cock in a screen door.

It's still completely fucked for me.  I get no layout whatsoever and most of the images don't show up.  Black text on white, and only smilies and some avatars display.

No good.  I think there might be something happening with the firewall here.  I'm at work, so I've got no control over it and might be fucked.  The only reason I'm not sure about that is that the :rainbow:-assed blue theme mostly works fine, but Woopig4 doesn't.

I don't think I can do that...there's certain restrictions on my computer here at work and our tech guys are a bunch of tards sitting at a table in India who I can't understand.  I'll try. Otherwise it looks like at work I'll have to view in the blue/gray format

This must be the issue for me.  The resident Nazis have us locked into IE 8 and I can't install Chrome behind our firewall.  Everything looked good this morning on Chrome on a Mac before I left home.

Try this.  Click on "Profile" at the top left of the page.  When that new screen pops up, see if there is a button on the top right that looks kind of like two arrows pointing to the left      <<      in a box.  If so, click on that, then you should be able to go and update your profile again to Woopig 4.  You should be able to do it in "Look and Layout"

It's not workplaces or browsers.  I've tried Safari 5.1.1, Chrome 14.0.835.202, Firefox 7.0.1, and Mobile Safari iOS 5 over WiFi and 3G.  I've reset browsers and switched between the theme options.  These are the consistent problems:

About 1/2 of avatars aren't loading (e.g., HOGGLY WOGGLY, Hogtired, 501 Hawgz, libertyhog, Boar Bidet in this thread).  The "Welcome" area is missing, and the PM notification is missing the word "messages".  Element spacing and font sizes display inconsistently across the browsers.

There's an issue with some attachments. Not sure what it is...but that same problem is affecting some avatars. This was a big move...and an upgrade to the SMF software. We'll try to fix the attachments, but it's entirely possible that it can't be fixed.

So...if you don't see your avatar, upload a new one.

And screenshots, like PorkSoda posted, are helpful. For him, it looks like the stylesheet isn't loading at all. Going to change something I noticed last night when messing with the stylesheets. Maybe it will fix it.

When I hit view source it only lets me save it as an html file.  Then when I open it, it just opens as the actual web page.  Can't save it as a text file.  This probably sounds incredibly stupid.

I also just noticed that it's not just when I'm quoting something.  It's whenever I have a post that is over one line long.  Just posted the lineup in the Cards thread and couldn't read past the first line without scrolling.  Not sure if that makes a difference though.

This is where I am right now too.  Just read through and didn't see the answer.  It's there on Core Theme and Extreme Red, but not on woopig4.  Using Firefox.  Oooh, and as I type a reply I notice that my cursor never goes to the next line.  This is cool, it's like an old fashioned typewriter moving across the screen.  Nothing of the page is left now.  I have cleared temporary internet files and cookies.  Haven't tried anything else yet.

When the server is stable, could we get some help with the mobile woopig?  Quotes don't work the same, and it's blue, but the edit feature is a nice addition.  I survive at work on teh iPhone.

I visit it through this link on my iPhone: http://woopig.net/board/index.php?wap2 (http://woopig.net/board/index.php?wap2).

I've said this several times, but if you use woopig a lot, and use an iphone, go to the app store and get tapatalk.  its like $3, but its worth it.  Its way better than WAP.

I bought tapatalk last week and I'm with you that the interface is much prettier.  I love wap for its simplicity and speed, though, so I'm having a hard time adapting to tapatalk because in my minimal experience it lacks in those areas.

I will give it another shot, though, based on your recommendation.

This may have already been here, but I just noticed the Unread Posts link on the right(circled in blue), on the main forum page. I'll switch to preview and edit in some smileys if I need to. Usually don't.

I never knew woopig had it. I think Hogville use to, I remember using it there I think. And I'm pretty sure one of the main forums for Trukz use to have it and I used it there sometimes. I thought Woopig just didn't have it as an option, I never noticed it in my settings.

Absolutely! 1st thing I do every single time I get on the woppussy is check new replies to my posts, then new unread posts, then click on other posts. I also have my layout set up to have most recent posts appear at the top on the most recent (1st) page. Much easier to navigate, (also, I'm not allowed within like 50 yards of any school).

I did too, but Oinkx is on 2.0 and Woopig is on 2.0.1.  It works there but not here.

And Dr. Yanknpull, the dropdowns dont work onn iPhone/iPad on the new version of SMF.  Lash had brought that up, i dont know of any way to fix it, but i think there is or should be a meme about getting Tapatalk for your iPad.

It's not that big of a deal.  I just hit the go up and then home and pick what board I want.  I'm kind of like what SOTH said a couple of days ago.  I have no better understanding of the new format than the last.  I appreciate your work V.

I don't think the search feature is working, at least not for me. I tried searching for something on my phone and it just kept trying to load and finally timed out. I got back to my lap top and tried again and the same thing happened. I even tried searching for "bobby petrino" and got nothing.

That would be correct.  It is because the search index, the way it works, it indexes every single word in every single post on the entire board.  If you think about every word in every post being indexed on a busy message board that has been running for like 12 years, thast a lot of words.  I dropped the search index when we went to move servers because it cut the database size in half.  I've slowly been working on getting the index rebuilt, but it is gonna take days to run.  Im not discounting what you said, trust me.  If there are things that arent working, we need to know, and we'll fix them when we are done with our real jobs, so if there are things that arent working, please do tell us and we'll get to it as we can.  And if you have spyware, you might try uninstalling Adobe Reader.

One thing I've noticed: when I click the new icon on a new topic I've never clicked on before, it just goes to the top of the page and not the 1st post. If I click the new icon on a topic I've previously viewed, it works fine and takes me to the oldest post I haven't viewed yet and work forward from there as usual.

Thats the way it has always worked.  If you click the new icon on a thread you have or have not read, it will go to the first unread post.  If you havent read it, the first post is the first post you havent read.  Make sense.

But when I click the new icon on a new topic I haven't previously viewed, it doesn't go to the 1st post in the topic at the bottom of my page, it goes to the top of the page and I have to click the "go down" button, next to the page numbers, to get to the bottom of the page, which is missing also ("go up" at the bottom of the page too).

I hate to sound like a whiny lil bitch. Just pointing out some of the stuff missing from the old server.

Snorting News will be easy. I'll take care of that tomorrow. The homepage thing...we've got to look into how they're coding the navbar differently with this version.

that haven't done that and have the dreaded red X for their profile pics...Haven't used Chrome much so can't really

I don't know if you guys have noticed or not, but the thing telling you that you have PM's is not up.

Observation, not a complaint --

Using the "Theme 13" on an iPhone; every once in a while it will randomly switch to full view when I click on a link. The only way I've found to fix it is to refresh to the home page via the link Verotik sent out.

Not a major concern. You guys are obviously way smarter and work way harder than I do.

But the navbar says "MY MESSAGES [1]" or something...right?

Anybody?

What are you asking?  If you hold your mouse cursor over a post title on the main page of the board for a second or two, a window pops up with the first few paragraphs of the post.  That's what the hover "function" is.

I saw the hover feature being discussed and wasn't aware of it. I was trying to find out what it was.

Most pictures show as broken links.  Same with the smiley's.  Chrome problem?

I had the problem with some of the smileys showing up as broken links until I edited my profile just now and changed my Current Smiley Set from "akyhne" to "classic."  Apparently "akyhne" points to a smiley page that doesn't exist. I'm using Chrome, too.  I don't know if that has anything to do with why it was trying to use the wrong smiley library.

"mark all messages read" at the bottom right of the main forum page hasn't worked properly for me in the last hour or so.  It never marks anything as read and just refreshes the page.  Maybe some temporary boo boo?

Why can't you see members' email addresses if they have them public?

Hmm, dunno if this is an issue on my side or yours, but this morning my woopigz were mobile themed.  The "switch to regular view" or whatever the button said just reloaded the page, again in the mobile theme.

It's fine now, but what might have caused that?

It was a problem with a WordPress plugin for mobile. No idea why it was broken, but I deactivated and reactivated it and it's fine now.

Where did the link to the board "tree" go?  If I want to go from Razorback Discussion to Crapola (for example), there is no longer a link I can click from within a thread or board to go to the top level to see the list of boards.  Getting there requires more work now.

Usually there is a link tree, I think in the upper left corner that lets you directly go to what subject you want.

Are you guys talking about the "Jump to:" dropdown that I think was on the lower right (and maybe the upper right as well)?

EDIT: The "jump to" is displaying for me now on the lower right in the red bar. Maybe I overlooked it when I posted this.

No, I think it was in red and had all the main sections mentioned.  Like "Crapola, Classics".  You could just click on them and go straight to that section.
