St. Louis (Mo.) University running back Ronnie Wingo Jr. is nearing the end of his official visits and has an idea of when he would like to make an announcement.

Ronnie Wingo (right) and host Ryan Mallett enter Bud Walton Arena for the basketball game against aMm
Heading home from his official visit to Arkansas, Wingo, 6-foot-3, 212 pounds, 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash, reflected on the visit.

"Aw man, it was good, good staff, basketball game, nice people, the food was good. Everything, it was just great," Wingo said. "I was with [Ryan] Mallett most of the time.

"We just chilled at different players' houses and different things. We just did different things like that. It was nice, real nice."

What was Wingo's favorite part of the trip?

"Can I have two of them? –The basketball game, they had our names with the signs and everything, that was crazy," he said. "They were cheering us everywhere, and when we first got there at the Catfish Hole, the Hog Call, that was crazy too."

Wingo's entire family was on hand, and he said they all enjoyed the trip, too.

"They loved it, they loved it. My whole family, my mom and my dad, my brothers and sisters," he said. "I can't tell you [who had the most fun], I don't know. I know I liked it though, and it's going to come down to what I like."

Wingo declined to compare his trip to Arkansas with other visits, but he has trips coming up to Minnesota (1/16) and Illinois (1/23). Tentatively, he plans to have a decision by Jan. 30, the Friday after his last visit.

The 18,884 fans in attendance for the basketball game made sure the recruits were well received
"I don't want to compare any of them. I don't want to give the wrong idea, just make my decision the next couple of weeks after my visits are up," Wingo said. "I'll wrap it up and I'll make my commitment the following Friday after my last visit. That's what I'm leaning at, I'm not sure."

Wingo told Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino the same thing Sunday morning. He said he loves Arkansas but will make his other two scheduled visits as planned.

"The meeting was good. He was just asking me where I wanted to be. I'm going to take all my visits and don't want to break my word," he said. "They're getting it done. They're working out already. They're going in on Sunday at 10 o'clock a.m. I want to go somewhere where I'm going to win. I want to win."

Wingo has been to Arkansas once before, but he got a better look at all of Arkansas' facilities, academic and athletic. While he was getting a look at the UA, Petrino made sure he kept hearing that familiar theme of how Arkansas desperately wants a big running back.

"It was top of the line stuff," Wingo said. "Throughout the whole weekend [he told me that], and yesterday we watched clips of the games and stuff like that. It was a good visit."

Rivals.com rates Wingo a four-star prospect and the No. 74 overall prospect in the nation, regardless of position. He has now taken official visits to Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas.

Anthony Leon and Colton Nash look to be pretty big time.  Especially Leon.

I don't mean to be negative, but it would seem that Leon already has a solid verbal to Oregon, and we aren't even among his top 4 schools of complete disinterest, so says your link.

If he's coming this weekend on a visit there is at least a chance, regardless of what the link says.  Maybe he's just getting a free trip, maybe he's really interested.  Who knows.

I've got a question about this:  The chicken at the catfish hole in alma is the absolute tits.  I've only been to the one in fayetteville once, because the chicken there wasn't nearly as good-- in fact, I'm pretty sure it was fried, then boxed and frozen, and finally reheated in its chicken-strippy lifetime. Is it always like that? I would be very happy to find out that it isn't, because I don't like alma.
And I don't want to hear any aMm about ordering chicken at a place called the catfish hole.  It's delicious, and you can toss my salad thrice and I still won't give a aMm that you prefer the catfish.

I have eaten at the one in Fayetteville many times and the one in Alma once.  I never saw a reason to order chicken.  Now if Frank says get the chicken, I suppose one oughtta.

I guess I need to lock this thread if it's going to migrate to a discussion of chicken vs fish at the Catfish Hole.

DOWN TO THE WIRE

Wide receiver Lance Ray, 6-2, 190, 4.32, of Havana, Fla., orally committed to Arkansas in December but took an official visit to Missouri over the weekend. He said he'll sign with the Razorbacks or Tigers at 7 a.m. Central on Wednesday.

Looks like we picked up a JUCO P/K that was a recruited walk-on for Hawaii.

He's going to punt here and maybe be the backup plan at kicker.

Any confirmation on Olivia coming here as an invited walk-on for kicker?

I've never heard so many "nice punt" comments by high school/JUCO play-by-play guys. oh wait, I guess that is because I don't watch make kicker highlight tapes.
