You mean like Crim, Winston, Gordon, Jones, Leon...

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I'm just saying we're getting there...
BUT we're one class away (at least).

We are on class away from being able to start counting on Petrino's talent and it is fair to be concerned.   He understands the need for real SEC DLinemen which is why you see such a focus on them with a third or so of the committed class coming from that position.  Still, it's frustrating because bammer and Auburn and LSU aren't standing still there either and I suspect there will be some upheaval in the defensive coaching staff before signing day, which could complicate things.

Even if they bring in a guy like Caldwell, for instance - it's not like he's been recruiting this year while he's cashing TN paychecks sitting at home, so he's not going to be bringing anyone new with him.

Well yes, but that was last year.  We are all bitching and moaning about the 2 and 3 star talent that Colonel Reb left us with but our current half filled class only has one 4 star.  And it's an O lineman.  And in all honesty, February ISN'T that far away.  I believe in Petrino and I believe in his system.  All I'm saying here is that I'd like to see some higher rated/regarded players in our commit list at this point.  I mean frick, it's the SEC.  Our current defense is terrible.  Immediate play time in a major Div 1 program seems pretty enticing to me.  if you can get them to campus with that promise then it's all about closing.  it can't be that hard to close in Fayetteville.  It's beautiful, the fans are fricking insanse and the puthy is incredible.  Don't tell me there ain't a bunch of dirty ho's you can't flaunt around.

Is Sloan still a "Soft Commit" to Nebraska?  I'm hoping Petrino and the boys are making it hard for him to leave the state with what we've seen from our CB's so far this season.

We need to get some stud defensive ends in this class.  We are getting nothing out of Bequette and Davis and Tank Wright seems to be our only decent backup.

He doesn't have an offer from Arkansas.

Meanwhile, I think it's been shown that all the gnashing of teeth in this thread is for naught, as you see a ton of Petrino recruits making a difference on defense.

The way rivals 'ranks' teams is somewhat retarded.

How are we ranked behind this school:

http://arkansas.rivals.com/commitlist.asp?Year=2010&School=9

Oh yeah, they have 2 4* and we have 1 4*.  Grnated, our average is better for stars and if you look, they have half their class below a 5.6 rating.  However, because they have some kid ranked at a 5.8 instead of a 5.7, they are ranked higher?

Anyone that puts stock in the 'team' rankings needs to pull head from ass.

If it's even possible, Scout's system is more retarded than Rivals'.  I'm pretty sure you could get 35 2* commits and Scout would put you in the top 10.

Any recruits supposed to be in this weekend?  I was flying from DFW last night and there was a kid that looked like a FB player and was heading to XNA.  Had gold bottom teeth and seemed really nice.  Seemed a bit scared of the situation flying in with all the snow.  Didn't ask his name, but just wondering if it was a recruit maybe?

Not supposed to be.  The last planned visit was the DT from Mississippi that was here mid-week.

Funny recruiting story. Hootie came into town last week/early this week, and wnt over to harber to see their JR lineman standout. Hootie, his errogant self, did not call ahead to the coaches. So he walks up to the secretary and askes to see the kid. She asks if he has an appt with coach Wood (of course he doesn't). The sec, who thinks he's an ass, then tells him Wood teaches at the school down the street at this time of day (knowing wood was actually out of town). HN comes back from the other, and school after finding out Wood is out of town, and asks if there are any other coaches he can speak with. The sec asks "what is your name"? Classic. He gives her Colonel Reb with his everyone shoukd know me attitide.
So, she gets another coach and he comes down to meet. Hootiee tells him who he wants to see, so the coach goes looking for him in the cafeteria since its lunchtime. Kids not there. His dad took him to lunch. Coach calls him, in front of hootie, and tells him "Colonel Reb is here at the school to meet you". The kid replies, "I just got my food, and I'm hungry. Ask him if he can come back some other time". The coach tells Hootie, and hootie gets pissed, "did u tell him I was here"? Coach: "I just called him right here in front of you. He said he's hungry, and for you to come back". Hootie leaves pissed.

This aint central ark hootie. Your aMm does smell up here.

Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fellow says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace - and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.

Great story.

But....don't propogate the myth that central Arkansas loves Hooties. Loudest cheer of the year in WMS was an OM score that showed Hootie losing.

You know, I just thought something needed to be brought up here.

People have said, people who should know who have observed the guy for years, that Petrino is possibly the best in America at finding the guys that fits what he wants and evaluating talent.  This board was full of guys whining and bitching about how they didn't have enough stars 6 months ago, blah blah blah.

In the meantime we are now watching this staff have to work it's ass off to keep the guys they have committed on board because LSU, Tejas and the rest are offering them scholarships and having some success in luring them away.

So I guess the guy knew what he was doing after all, didn't he?
