Vulture Whale, one of my favorite discoveries of the past couple years, is playing two shows in the Natural State in two weeks.
7/24 at the Boom Boom Room in Fayetteville
7/25 at White Water Tavern in Little Rock
The only time I've seen 'em was at SXSW this year and it was one of the top 2-3 shows of the week for me.
I didn't book these VW shows, but I'm sorta responsible for them getting booked (so I hope they draw!).
RIYL: kickass rock, at various times I hear Pavement, Husker Du, Crazy Horse...insane.
Their song "Land It" is one of the best rock songs you'll ever hear.
Edit: you can hear some of their stuff here -- http://www.myspace.com/vulturewhale

Oh, yeah, this one:
Aug. 11 at White Water Tavern -- SLOBBERBONE with Glossary
This will be epic. If you don't know da 'Bone, well, you should. They are doing a minitour of the midwest, and LR is serving as a testing grounds. I caught two Slobberbone reunion shows in February in Texas and they didn't miss a beat.
Word is they are going to record a new record (not a Drams record, though Brent may keep both going).
And Glossary is maybe my favorite band out there right now.

thanks for the heads up on Slobberbone.  Just bought a ticket.  That should be a great one.

I've never been able to get into Glossary.

I want a Dexateens run through here.   Hungry

You and me both on the Dexateens. My friends in the southeast who see them regularly say they are the best live band in America today.
My guy at WWT is trying to get 'em.

Have you seen Glossary live? They are tons o' fun.

I'd like to see the Dexateens also. Has anyone ever seen Magnolia Electric Co.? I hear them on my Pandora and like what I've heard. They singer isn't the greatest, but I like their style and sound.

Red Dust Rising may be one of the best Southern rock albums ever.  Hope it works out between the two.  I'll be there for sure if it does.

Yes, I've seen Glossary a few times opening for other bands at the New Daisy.  The last time, I think, was squeezed between Two Cow Garage and Southern Bitch at that first Lucero Picnic in Batesville a couple years back.  I thought they were, by far, the weakest on that bill.  They've just never caught my ear.  Weird because I listen to a lot of bands that sound like them.

I saw MECo at Sticky Fingerz 4-5 years ago. They are very good live but put on notoriously short shows. Like 40 minutes.
That first MECo (mistakenly printed as Songs:Ohia -- Magnolia Electric Co.) record is excellent.

Ha! I was at that Lucero picnic, too, and I thought Glossary was the best thing there.
I implore you to give 'em another shot. They are some great folks. I love Two Cow, too.

Hardwire Healing is my favorite Dexateens record, but the new one (Singlewide) is very good.

I was shocked to find out TCG was from Ohio. I sure didn't picture that.

Agreed...Songs:Ohia is excellent.

They'll be in Memphis next week.

Bump.

Tonight at the White Water, night two of Vulture Whale.
They killed in Fayetteville last night, and I expect more of the same.
Five bucks. Come out and support a great band.

Not 100% official yet, but:

not bad.  That was the most attention I've given them in 3 or 4 shows.  They're a good, tight rock n roll band.  Nothing special though...imo of course.  But you'd think that Glossary was the main draw by the way the crowd thinned out during the first of Slobberbone's set.

Justin Townes Earle will be coming to Pocahontas of all places.  Sometime in September.  I can get more info if anyone's interested.

I think that was more because it was so late, and on a weeknight, though Glossary has played enough here to develop a good-sized following.
