I want to discuss something today that I think is completely unfair and something that has been taken too far by virtue of rumors, and that’s the vilification of Walt Williams and his recruiting & sports promotion company Pinnacle Preps. I have found nothing illicit about the way Pinnacle Preps handles promotions of the athletes who subscribe to that service.

Yes, two of Williams’ clients went to Auburn last year ? two players Arkansas recruited pretty lightly (one of which wasn’t offered until the day before NSD). Would Arkansas have taken Michael Dyer, of course, were they as excited about him as recruiting outlets or some other schools, clearly not. Arkansas knows good and well Dyer and Mosley would have been Razorbacks if they were offered at this time a year ago. But they made the decision not to do that. It’s not fair to blame Walt Williams for that. Still, people point the finger to Williams for steering them to Auburn. Let me tell you, Walt had nothing to do with Byran Jones, but Byran also dang near went to Auburn, too.

There are three things that will not change. No. 1, Williams played high school football for Gus Malzahn. No. 2, Williams went to every Razorback game (but one last season I think) and watched each away game on television because he is an avid Razorback fan who grew up in NWA. No. 3, Williams is not going to let his personal bias for the Razorbacks or his relationship with Gus Malzahn dictate where the players he promotes go to school. Will he try to get them an offer from Arkansas, Auburn or anybody else he can, certainly. Everybody knows, and I’m sure Kiehl Frazier does too, that if he goes to play at Auburn it is unlikely he will play the majority of his career for Malzahn anyway.

People question, why does Michael Dyer need to be promoted? He has 30 offers. Well, Pinnacle Preps started representing Dyer in the 10th grade, when he had zero offers. You want to tell me kids in Arkansas don’t need to be promoted, but at the same time you will gripe that Arkansas kids are underrated by recruiting outlets.

I just get tired of people posting all kinds of rumors about a situation where they have put the pieces together, come up with a conspiracy and then libel a person, who by the way is a private citizen, and his company on an internet message board under a fake name. Or those who just read someone’s conspiracy theory and perpetuate it as fact. I am also extremely tired of finding these posts on this forum and having to delete what I consider to be in many cases libel ? for which individual posters (not me) are responsible for and can be sued over. There are several similar cases of this happening, I assure you.

Below are a few of the prospects who have subscribed to Pinnacle Preps to be promoted by Williams this year. And I ask you Razorback fans, do you really want to vilify this guy, this organization and subsequently the prospects who rely on him for promotion? Is this the relationship you want to have with this agency? Is this how you want to kick things off with Brey Cook's recruitment? -By surrounding him with rumors of scandal? If for no other reason it’s simply unwarranted.

I know Walt Williams, and I know that he is not steering prospects to any particular school. I know he would like them to go to Arkansas so he can see them play every weekend, but even so he’s not going to steer them to Arkansas or anywhere else. You don’t have to like Walt Williams, you don’t have to like his service, but I can’t allow people to continue to point the finger at Pinnacle Preps because a couple of kids who were dissatisfied with Arkansas’ recruitment of them decided to go to Auburn. They clearly weren’t high on Arkansas’ list, and that is why they’re not both Razorbacks right now, not because of Pinnacle Preps.
