We went 2-3 in the last 5 games that year with Dick starting (wins over Tennessee and aMm and losses to LSU, Florida, and Wisconsin), although you can sort of put that at 3-3, because Dick played all but the first series in the South Carolina game.

That Tennessee game was the true unveiling of McFadden in the Wildcat.

As that season went down the stretch, every what-if scenario necessary for the Hogs to come back from that USCw ass-raping and play for the national title lined up perfectly.

Well, all but one: we aMm the bed, starting with LSU in Little Rock.

so how did the team do after he was benched?

They did better than him. After the benching of course.

He did have a couple of good games (Vandy, Ole Miss), but I would argue he was hardly the driving force behind that 8-0 start.  I think it was a combination of the McFadden/Jones/Hillis/Smith backfield and a largely-new offense (Malzahn's) that our opponents hadn't seen before and weren't prepared for.

srsly?   ???

With a backfield of
1) best running back in the game when healthy and back-to-back 2nd place in the Heisman
2) Madden cover boy and All-Pro
3) another starter in NFL

You don't think an 18 year old rookie QB was the driving force to leading us to 8-0?

Learn something new every day, I guess.

our win-loss record with Hillis, Jones, and McFadden sans Mustain is a little underwhelming.

our win-loss record with Hillis, Jones, and McFadden sans Mustain is a little underwhelming.

Michael Grant tearing his ACL coincides with Mustain being pulled.  Why couldn't that have been the cause of the downfall?

As shortstop said earlier, I don't have a problem with the hook.  But Mustain not getting a shot during LSU, especially after Casey got obliterated after CATCHING a pass, was nothing short of idiotic.  Following it up with giving Dick the nod in Atlanta just proved it was spite.

It can't be all laid at Casey's feet, though. He outperformed Mustain at times. AND Grant got hurt, which meant a lot more than anyone admitted.  AND DMac was used up after LSU and hurt in the SECCG and Cap1 games to boot.

It was a whole confluence of events that served to frick us.

Honestly, unless you are a Stepford Fan still bitter about Hooty leaving, I don't see why you would delight in hating on Mitch. His treatment by the MSM was embarrassing but after he left I didn't really care. If Mitch is a traitor then Damian Williams is also and I don't see any of you ankle biters bitching about him.

2 cents: I don't recall the Hogs using the system that Gus was sent here to implement after the USC game. And Dick should be better than MM was at that point in Nutt's offense. And while we're at that, if you argue for Dick's insertion because MM was failing, then why not get some MM in the last two games when Dick was gettin' flaccid at a historic rate.

And why the frick don't people be hatin' on Williams for transfering? That was the real loss in the situation...his parents were involved and made it known that there was a circus in town. Bacon out! (did that for the nostalgia)

DamiEn couldn't get off the line of scrimmage his first weeks here.  Even though he took the starting job b/c our other WR's were former QBs who sucked at QB and sucked WR, he couldn't get off the line against SEC dbacks as an 18 year old and never would have been good here anyways.  So we didn't lose much.
