I really don't understand how we are ranked behind a team like South Carolina that we completely dominated at their house last season.

I expected us to be maybe 10-11.  Seems low to me.

STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL

KEY LOSSES: There's no denying that the key loss was with QB Ryan Mallett, who declared for the NFL Draft after his junior season. Few could blame him; he did basically re-write Arkansas' offensive record books. Defensively, LB Jerry Franklin is a huge loss both from the standpoint of the number of tackles he made and his leadership, too.

At first I was kind of pissed off about this, but as I think about it, it's fine.  Yeah, I think it's low, but if the team takes care of business, things should set up nicely for that top-5 showdown in Red Stick at the end of the season.

After we butt-whip bammers and faggies we'll be around three or four, maybe higher if bammers are first when we beat them and faggies are still ranked above us the next week.  We'll pass cockadoodledoo, and maybe even the corndogs.

A&M and SC will both fall early so this is good for us.  Look for SMU to take out A&M during week 1.

Arkansas has been ranked in the pre-season 3 times in the last DECADE. Two in a row with Petrino as coach. Anybody know when the last time we were ranked two years in a row pre-season?

I bet it goes all the way back to Hatfield, probably during 85-89 somewhere.  I don't remember any time with col. reb, for sure.  I'm too  lazy to look it up, though.

I think this is the year LSU finally melts down.  LSU plays Oregon in Jerryworld and they play at West Virginia.  I think LSU will lose at least 3 games this year.  I think the MSU game will be two higher ranked opponents than the LSU game.    :helmet:

So teh ESPN is on w/ Jesse Palmer, talkin about the bammers, and they have a VERY soft schedule.  Toughest games are us, LSU, and Penn State.  Palmer is making it sound like Saban's smarts and their defense is gonna be what makes them a title contender.  I'm not buying it.

Also interestingly enough, he says allbarn shouldnt' even be ranked, and aTm is ranked too low.  he would have them at #5.  Don't know about that one.

I think bammer will have a very good record, but I think the schedule and tough games at home will be as much of a factor as their talent this year.  I didn't see McCarron throw a hard ball in their spring game.
You only have to be the best team today.

It's preseason poll, and therefor it is irrelevant.  What I find funny is that the reasons USC and aTm are ranked ahead of us are also reasons we should be ranked higher.  USC with a strong running back and 1 strong receiver, and a pretty good TE.  We've got at least that plus.  Tell me SC's backups at those positions are better than ours.  aTm has what is supposed to be a good receiving corp, 2 strong rb, a QB ready to prove something, and a solid D.  We've got that, and ours has beaten theirs twice already.
Why are we not ranked higher?  Because we are Arkansas, and from the late 80's until now, our success has been a fluke.  Any up year for us has been attributed to a down year for other teams.  We go out this year and win 10-12 games, next year and following years we will get those favorable rankings.  And they won't matter, because it's preseason.

I can see the Bama game being a top 10 showdown.  At worst, assuming Bama gets by Penn St, it should be number 1 vs number 12 or so.
I am not claiming I am right, I am saying I don't get it.

Shirley there are some top 10 matchups before we play Bama that will allow us to move up in the polls. Don't Oregon and Boise both play a top 10 team?

First out of the gate, Sept. 3rd in Arlington.  Oklahomo and Free Shoes University play on Sept. 17th.
