I would say yes RT @thestulls @jefflongUA So is everyone going to be happy with the schedule tomorrow or upset?

Whoever's managing his tweets (maybe it's him), is pretty damned witty.

I noticed he mentioned in another tweet that the players liked NC State's all-red unis in the Belk Bowl.

Just because we play in the SEC West is no reason to duck decent teams from other conferences as opposed to scheduling the Troys and Jacksonville States of the world.  LSU and Bama don't duck real opponents - why should we be scared to play a real team?  Since Bama is going to be our first game for the foreseeable future, it would be nice to know what we have before we play them.  If we play a good team and lose and then play Bama and win and put ourselves in legitimate position to win the West, aren't we better off?  It has been statistically proven that a one-loss team can make the NC game.  If we lose to a Ohio State or Oklahoma State or Oregon or whoever - I don't really care who it is - and then run the table in the SEC, I like our chances.

Alabama's non-conference slate this year:

Kent State
@Pedo State
North Texas
Georgia Southern.

Arkansas's 2011 non-cons:

Missouri State
Troy
New Mexico
A&M @ Arlington

Both teams played one FCS, one SunBelt, one from another aMm conference, and one FBS "name" opponent.  To our credit at least our FBS foe was projected as a top ten team this year, while Alabama's was supposed to be around .500.  It's not our fault that A&M aMm the bed in half their games.

Troy is almost always better than North Texas, so again we did what we could with the knowledge we had at the time.  New Mexico and Kent State have both been bottom feeders for years.  Even though Kent was better this year, it's not like there's a huge gap between the two teams most years.

The only area where Alabama truly out-scheduled the Hogs was the selection of the FCS opponent.  Georgia Southern is a traditional power for that level, while Missouri State is mediocre most of the time.  Nonetheless, both are teams that any SEC team should pummel 10 out of 10 times.  Arguing these two teams relative strengths as the rent-a-win for a top ten team is like fighting over who is the most virtuous porn star or the smartest Nutt brother.

I think we're all in agreement that I should be in charge of our non-conference schedule.

The timing is the main issue.  We don't play anyone of substance before hitting conference play.  Regardless of whether A&M greatly underachieved this year, we had no idea how good - or bad - we were before playing one of the two best teams in the nation.  I realize you're not always going to get a quality opponent when you want it, but it would be nice to see us try to do so again.  Shoot, I'd take a home-and-home against Boise if for no other reason than to shut them up.

The two previous years we at least played Georgia before playing Bama.  But you have to go back to 2006 and USC to find a true quality non-conference opponent before the conference slate started.

I get the gist of this argument, but I distinctly remember leaving the Troy game, after watching our defense struggle and stumble all night long, thinking: "The next time I watch a game in this stadium, we will have 2 losses."  I figured Bama would do what they did, and that we would lose to A&M.

I could tell by playing Troy that we sucked on defense.  I'm not sure playing better competition earlier in the season is the key to beating Bama.  Saban always has them juiced and ready to start SEC play.
LSU fans are tres gauche.

One of my kids just tweeted Long about how (i) we still have a non-conference slot to fill and (ii) tejas still owes us a game.

From what I read earlier today, the Texas League is unsure of its schedule because they're waiting to see how the WVU vs. Big East thing shakes out. It might be hard getting a game with any of those teams right now because of that.

Jeff Long was on Bo's show this afternoon & Bo quizzed him on the schedule next year, and the talk of LSU up to 'nam.

Long said that most everything is hinging on the 12th game, and how it affects the schedule as a whole.  He voiced concerns about 2 road games before the LSU game, and the impact of coming down the hill to LR to play them, and how & when the 12 team is set up; whether it will be a road game, home game, or in Jerry world.  On the subject of who we are playing, he said they are trying to get a non- FCS opponent for the 12th game, and doesn't want to do 2 of them if we can avoid it.

He basically is saying that he wants that 12th game & sit down with Petrino to figure these things out.  Said that one of the big things is the whole big east / Texas League shakeup has a lot of teams hanging in limbo that we could possibly play.  He talked about some of these teams may have to get rid of games or have to add some other games depending on how the schedule for those conferences shakes out.  Pretty informative for Bo's show.

Having said that, I will be surprised if LSU doesn't go up to Fayetteville

Haven't we labeled it a "road" game in the past with some directional school(s)?

I heard clay or Dudley today on Bo's show about  the hogs 12th opponent today & they were Talking about the possibility of Nebraska, because they have an open date on 9/22.

I found a link to all fbs schedules & looked up a few potential teams.

http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa/2012-college-football-schedules.php

Bo talked about it today with the possibilities that WVA may have to stay in the big east, & the fact that Texass league teams would likely have to pick up an extra non conference game.  A lot is yet to be decided in the ACC also according to this site.  Clemson, Fl State just to mention a couple have a lot to be decided. Most PAC 12 schedules are set, so I think it's unlikely we could get a west coast matchup.

Check it out & discuss while we wait on DGB & our 12th opponent to be named.

That'd defintely add some luster to our OOC schedule; and give Joe Bob and you other 'braska woopiggas an opportunity to talk smack to your co-workers. win/win

I wouldn't mind us playing a team the likes of Nebraska out of conference regularly. It's be nice to mix in a good team, with tradition, amidst the cupcakes.

Florida State is the sexiest of all those choices.  But Arkansas/Nebraska in JerryWorld just feels right.  Let's make it happen.

I wouldn't mind seeing Arkansas/FSU in the Superdome.  For all I know the Saints might have a game scheduled there the next day but it would be different than the usual mega nonconference matchup that teams are playing in Atlanta or Dallas these days.
