This is a good step down for him.  Recruiting should be easy.  He was already in on half the Memphis recruits, and he's used to stealing people away from LaTech and Tulane.

Hot rumor on the boards today.
I posted this on LOL thread - maybe more appropriate here.

Someone explain this to me. There is no way tiger high is a job that he can succeed at in the near future to allow him to flipoff LOL Miss and the Hogs.  I cannot imagine he has the energy to actually work at rebuilding a program.  It's not financial - he has to have plenty of money even if he is about to give half of it to leatherface.

The only logical, partial explanation is that he knows no one on his staff can get another job and they don't have the financial security that he has.  This makes no sense.

He'll get drilled by Ole Miss in a few years, and afterwards claim "we left a lotta good ones there."
They also play Miss St, Ark St.
So yeah, please let this happen.

I said this in the other thread but I think worth repeating. Please let this be true! He will disappear into oblivion since Memphis is a basketball school and ideal for the Big East. and it will keep this thread alive. RC Johnson is a moron and this will on prove it!

First, the Memphis job is not open.

Secondly, HDN has alienated himself from all the powerhouse high school football programs in the midsouth that are worth recruiting.

I think this rumor is stupid.

If it is true, Ole Miss will schedule him for their permanent NC game for payback.

He should have stolen a few more, because La Tech trounced his ass 27-7 a couple of weeks ago.

Highlights include a series against Louisville in 2013-2016, a home-and-home with Miami in 2014-15, a home-and-home with Missouri in 2015-16 and one game against EOE-K in 2015.  He'd get the chance to lose a few more SEC games there.

Looks like another AD wants an early retirement.
The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

Memphis' AD is already one of the worst, and most maligned by Memphis fans.  Hiring Nutt is akin to scribbling down "By the time you read this..."
I am not claiming I am right, I am saying I don't get it.

Houston Nutt said he's had "no contact whatsoever" with Memphis about its head coaching job. Said he's in no rush to find another job.

Just had another thought...

The clown posse would be thrilled.  They can break their old gear out of mothballs and won't need to change the logos

Uh oh.  One of the first stand-alone threads about Nutt since the Lol Miss thread started.  Is it no longer our one-stop source for Nutt laughs?  You mean I actually have to scan the board now?  *:

If Porter is let go -- and that hasn't been decided officially one way or another -- a more realistic candidate is Hugh Freeze.

Why would Freeze want to take a step down, Starkville, ASU has owned Memphis in the last 4 or 5 years. Yes, even under Roberts.
