Staff changes?

Didn't want to add this to the Willie thread since it isn't about Willie, but this article says John L Smith is a candidate for the HC job at his alma mater, Weber State.

I'm surprised Arkansas has kept him this long when you see some of the folks that are getting head coaching jobs.

I kind of assumed he was semi retired, our special teams have improved under him but I wouldn't say he's irreplaceable.

I'd be very surprised if he did this.

They can have him, our special teams suck outside of Hocker and Breeding and John L. doesn't even coach those two.

Of course Joe is a good return man but that has nothng to do with Smith.  He's supposed to get our guys in position to make a play and when they aren't the consequences are pretty bad.

So outside of the punter, the place kicker, and the three different guys who ran kicks back for five ST scores, right?

Is that sort of like you being a great poster except for all your shitty posts?

Like I said, John L. doesn't coach the punter or place kicker, they dick around all practice while Smith 'coaches' the OLBs.

And those 5 special teams scores had less of an impact than the ST scores we gave up.

I like John L coaching the special teams.  Not sure he does aMm with the defense, though.  Damn sure doesn't seem to recruit.

I would hate to lose Smith, as he seemed very happy being given extra time with the special teams. Our return game has been stellar -- to the point where I don't think it's ever been this good (the years with McFadden and Jones returning kicks featured the infamous "punt catcher" era).  If you watch the coaches show you see the returns are more than just a great talent like Adams or Johnson.

Losing McGee is something we should have been prepared for since last year. But I would hate to lose him to a job like FAU.

Does anyone else remember a team blocking a punt in the last minute of the game when it absolutely had to happen for the team to win?

Nevermind that we didn't scoop and score - that block was sheer brilliance.

Florida, Florida St, and Miami (before they hired Golden).

Obviously he's not as famous as the three guys those schools hired, but still.  It DOES happen.
