That map isn't exactly right. It shows all the schools affiliated with the conference but you can chop off California and Idaho and the rest is the BBall map.  Take away the midwest schools for the football map.
I am not claiming I am right, I am saying I don't get it.

Holy aMm. I thought they were supposed to try and improve their conference. This has WAC written all over it. Its criminal that they will have a automatic BCS bid.

Then off course there's the inevitable , "but now we play a real schedule!" cry from Boise. ::)

Boise's done.  As pedestrian as this conference "appears," it'll present Boise with a semblance of a challenge every week or 2.  WV, Pitt, Cinci, UConn...those schools would all "appear" to be just as good as Boise if they got their shittastic schedule every season.

It would serve them right if NCAA went ahead and did away with the automatic qualifiers.

pitt's movin on up to the ACC, but your argument is still valid; my hair is not a bird.

I'm guessing they'll be about like WVU, Cinci, UConn, etc.  They'll probably go 8-4 or 9-3 every year with an occasional 10 win season.  I fully expect them to come way back down to earth now that they have to play somewhat decent schools week in and week out.

The Big East has added a bunch of teams that were good to great the past few years, but whose prospects look iffy going forward.

For football, the Big Least will be

Boise State
San Diego State
SMU
Houston
Central Florida
UConn
Cincinnati
Louisville
Rutgers
South Florida

They're allegedly after Air Force & Navy for football.

Pitt & Syracuse are headed to the ACC; WVa is headed to the Big 12.  The Big East commissioner is trying to hold those 3 til 2014.

It doesn't look like much, but it's still tougher than what they HAVE been playing.  UConn, Cinci, UL, Rutgers, and USF have all had fairly recent success.  I just don't think Boise would survive a stretch of 3 games where they'd play something like: @ USF, Cincinnati, @UL.  Everybody lays en egg.  We almost did against OM and Vandy.  Boise's been able to escape their egg games with wins just got a lot more difficult, IMO.

I'm right there with you.  This is tougher than any schedule they've played in a long time, and it STILL pales in comparison to any BCS conference schedule outside the current Big East.

"Oooooo...what about us?  We beat an SEC team!"  Yeah, well call me when you play EIGHT SEC teams, let alone actually beat 6 or 7 or 8.

I hope Boise goes right back in the shitter from whence they rose.
