From footballscoop.com:

Arkansas: We have confirmed that Ohio State corners coach Taver Johnson is leaving to accept the co-defensive coordinator position on his good friend Paul Haynes' defense at Arkansas.

He coached corners at OSU but has coached d-line and linebacker in other places. I wonder if they'll shift the coaches around again or just plug him into Reggie's old spot with the linebackers?

Also coached Special Teams with the Browns.

Previous Coaching Experience: Wittenberg (defensive line, 1994-95), Millikin University (linebackers, 1995-97, linebackers and defensive coordinator, 1998), Notre Dame (graduate assistant, 1999), Miami of Ohio (linebackers, 2000-03), Cleveland Browns (special teams, 2004), Miami of Ohio (assistant head coach/defensive coordinator, 2005-06), Oakland Raiders (defensive line, 2007).

Does this make the first hire without specific Petrino connections?

Horton and Allen had no ties to him that I'm aware of. Didnt herun oft Kirk Boykin after the first season? I don't believe Caldwell had ever worked with Petrino either, but there was a prior relationship.

Johnson began his coaching career at Wittenberg, spending two years there (1994 and 1995) as the Tigers' defensive line coach.

Johnson then spent three seasons (1996-98) at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. and one year (1999) as a graduate assistant at Notre Dame before joining the Miami staff in 2000. He spent four seasons with the RedHawks before joining the staff of the Cleveland Browns in 2004.

He returned to Miami following the 2004 season and was the architect of one of the Mid America Conference's most successful defenses in 2005 and 2006.

Johnson and his wife, Sharday, have one son, Tyree.

Good resume.

It may be the Dogfish Head IPA, but I'm heartily encouraged by this news.  Get this guy on a plane already and get him into some living rooms.

Haynes showing his 'recruiting' prowess already.

(oh frick, tamp down the optimism.  don't let yourself get too confident in the improvements shown at the bowl game, plus coaching hires that seem like home runs).

The fact that tOSU fans are pissed that they are losing him is all we need to know.

Because that part of the resume probably didn't get updated from 5 years ago.

Most are sad to see him go except for the ones on there that believe tOSU is the most dominant program in the history of programs and will win the NC the next 10 years because they hired cUM and he can do no wrong.

Will be interesting to see what he can do without Tebow.  Does anyone remember how he did at Florida without him and what he left the next coach?

On a side note, they are one SECobsessed fanbase.  It is funny seeing their new coach cutting players or whatever they accused the SEC of doing.

That sums up a good chunk of them. You'll find some reasonable ones, but for the most part, they're full retard. When they suck, like this year, you don't hear much out of them, but after they hired Meyer, they won't shut up. Everyone at my work is all but garunteeing an NC in two years, and they legitimately think that they'll be PLAYING - not just contending - in the BCSNCG every other year. No exaggeration. They also think they'd be 2nd best the SEC. If you bring up their record (including the win they bought against us), it doesn't phase them. They're some arrogant, delusional, excuse-makin sons of bitches out here.

I'm just relieved that we've finally hired a guy named "Taver." It's about damned time.
Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fellow says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace - and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.

So lets just say we have hired the epic defense team services that OSU used to have. Did not take BMFP to figure out who was beating him at his game and hire them!
