AFC-NFC Championship Games vs. Lady Razorback Basketball
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:15:22 AM »

Apparently, something in NWA called The Hog Sports Radio Network has a contract with the UA to carry Lady Razorback basketball.  Recently, the radio station also got broadcast rights for NFL games.

This past Sunday, the radio station broke its contract with the UA and aired the AFC and NFC Championship games, instead of the Lady Razorback game.  The UA is, understandably, pissed.  The station's programming manager said the decision was made because he felt, probably correctly, that there would be more interest in the NFL games than in the Lady Razorback game.

I doubt the outcome of this is much in doubt, but I wanted to see the numbers.  Had you been in NWA and without a TV or anything else to do this past Sunday, would you rather have listened to the NFL Conference Championship games, or to the Lady Razorback basketball game?

Here's the article, but you have to be a subscriber to read more than the first sentence:

Contract vs. rights

It's a dick move. Air the Lady Razorbacks.
Do you want ants? Because that's how you get ants.

I agree with the above.  I would have much rather listened to the football games, but they should have carried the LadyBack game.

Also, in the article, it's mentioned that while Storrs knew he would put the football games on, he didn't notify the U of A until Sunday, a few hours before the game.  Dick move.

The article was in the ADG too. Storrs tried a Cover your ass move by saying that he didn't decide for certain until Sunday morning. He comes off as a real dick in the whole thing.
