Texas to honor Ricky Williams with statue

8 hours, 39 minutes ago

AUSTIN, Texas (AP)—Texas will honor former Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams with a statue at the football stadium that be unveiled at the Longhorns’ annual spring game on April 1.

The 8-foot, 1,000-pound bronze figure will stand next to a statue of Earl Campbell, another former Texas Heisman winner.

Williams won the Heisman in 1998 and finished his Longhorns career as the NCAA career rushing leader. He recently retired from the NFL. Texas retired William’s No. 34 jersey in 2000.

Cleveland artist David Demming, who taught at Texas for 26 years, was commissioned to design the Williams statue in 2010.

Somehow those statues are even more ridiculous than I'd remembered.

I'm sorry if this was answered in the earlier thread, but what's up with those bricks?

Can't this thread be permanent somehow? I mean, why is it only every so often that we get to see those statues? Those are the worst things I have ever seen, and the fact that they are tied to the University of Texas is so perfect that it is difficult to believe that it really happened.  This thread is "LOL Miss" worthy, in my opinion. Obviously won't be as prolific, but every now and then someone like pale will throw a classic line out there about them that makes it worthy of permanence.

I wonder if you took the helmet of the black football player off, would he look like the black basketball player?

I led the league in fumbling with that old white piece of cotton that was supposed to be the football.  My brother and I ruined our electric football game by trying to have a mud game.  Lucky we didn't electrocute ourselves I guess.  I don't know if there was enough "juice" to do that, but it sure made my female cousin who was a teenager giddy when we turned the board on.

Doomsday, baby.

It's easy.   In the reply window  click the little image icon... then paste the link to the photo between the bracketed img boxes.

It's not showing up for me in your post either. I don't think imageshack allows hotlinking.

I just figured that the firewalls at work were blocking it for me.  Hmmm.  Maybe imageshack doesn't.  I thought that they did.
