2012 Polls
« on: September 04, 2012, 10:53:45 AM »
There's probably a thread for this, but I couldn't find it in the 3 seconds I spent scanning the first page.

Arkansas jumps Michigan and SC in the AP poll to move up to #8. Florida State jumped Georgia, and Alabama jumped USC.

Full poll comes out soon, but for now we know:

1. Bama
2. USC
3. LSU
4. Oregon
5. Oklahoma
6. FSU
7. Georgia
8. Arkansas
9.(tie) South Carolina
9.(tie) West Virginia

Glenn Guilbeau in Baton Rouge has been smoking too much with the honey badger. He has us ranked #21:

Oh, and Ray Ratto in San Francisco has Texas STATE ranked ahead of us. He is the only person who has Texas State in their poll.

Well, you know, they did beat Houston 30-13 Saturday, prompting Houston's offensive coordinator to resign yesterday.

I have no doubt in my mind we are a better team than South Carolina, but I can't argue with the rest. I think we would give up a lot of points to WV, Florida State, Oregon, SC, Bama, and even Georgia. I think we can play with anyone in the top ten, but I don't know that our defense at this point is good enough for us to beat any of them.

Also, I would be nervous in a game with several of the teams behind us, and a gme with Okie State would probably have the o/u set at about 120.

That's not entirely true. We showed that our 5-star cornerback still doesn't know how to do anything but run alongside someone, and lost his spot in the first half of the first game.

And I think all those teams except for maybe Alabama would give up a lot of points to Arkansas.

You could also say that you don't know if any other schools defense, other than Alabama's, is good enough for them to beat us.  There are very few really good defensive teams in college football anymore.  After Alabama and LSU (who I think is overrated) there aren't any other what I would call really good defenses.

Can't argue with anyone's rankings at this point. It's all conjecture this early in the year.

No, pretty much every play he has ever been involved in. It was enough for the coaches to say he lost his job and will have to try to earn it back, so I think it's safe to say we have some concern with our secondary.

The only thing I would add is I think we are better than Georgia. Their schedule is on the soft side so their offense looks better than it is.

OU may have a great field goal defense (UTEP shanked three makable ones) but I'm otherwise unimpressed that they ought to be #5.

UTEP probably panicked by going for an ill advised fake punt in their own end in the 3rd, down just 10-7.

Who knows.  Other than maybe Auburn not sucking as badly as anticipated, I din't see much that was very surprisong either way.

Our path seems pretty clear.

#1 ? ? ?*
#2 Beat Alabama and we jump in the rankings to number 4 (Bama falls to 5) behind LSU, USC, and Oregon.
#3 On Nov 3rd LSU and Bama play, as do USC and Oregon.  Regardless of who wins those games, Arkansas (if undefeated) would jump to number 2 (if Bama beats LSU) or number 3 (if LSU beats Bama) behind the USC/Oregon winner.
#4 beat LSU to secure an overall west title, and jump to #2
#5 beat the SECE team in the SECCG to guarentee a spot in the BCSMNC
#6 play either USC or Oregon in the title game.

Love all of it. But what if oregon and USC lost once to each other and you have a undefeated okihoma or west virgina. They could jump a one lost USC or Oregon.

How could USC and Oregon both lose to each other?

If USC beats Oregon (or vice-versa), and both Oklahoma and Arkansas are undefeated, we would jump Oklahoma. Shoot, if we beat Alabama we would jump them then right then (especially since they have a BYE that day), and we just beat the number 1 team in Amurka. Stay undefeated, and we would never relinquish the lead. Our schedule is much more impressive that theirs.

They will play each other in the reg. season and more then likey play each other again in the PAC 12 championship game. So both of them could end with one from each other.
