Where do the Arkansas Razorbacks go from here ?

“We go to Alabama,” Razorbacks Coach John Pelphrey said.

Yes, Arkansas (18-8, 7-5 SEC ) plays at Alabama on Wednesday night.

But the question was meant figuratively about the Razorbacks’ direction after Saturday’s 63-58 loss at Kentucky combined with Mississippi State’s overtime victory at South Carolina dropped Arkansas two games behind the Bulldogs (18-8, 9-3 ) in the SEC West race..........[more]

For now, Arkansas freshman Brett Eibner is relieved to not have to answer the question about having to choose between pitching or hitting.

“I don’t know. But I’ve been asked that question so many times I can’t tell you the answer,” said Eibner, who on Sunday lived up to his preseason billing as a two-way player.

Eibner played three positions in the Razorbacks’ 7-3 victory against Wright State. He started in center field, pitched three solid innings in relief to earn his first collegiate victory, then played the ninth inning in right field..........[more]

Running backs run deep in draft   02/24/2008
http://www.patriots.com/news/i......=latestnewsdetail&pid=31034&pcid=41

Generally speaking, in the NFL size does matter. But many of the notable running back prospects in the 2008 draft class are spending plenty of time this week at the Combine trying to prove that size isn’t always the defining factor for a ball carrier.

By most standards, the running back talent available in April’s draft is going to be one of the more fertile positions. The overall talent and depth of backs is led by a strong list of junior entries, topped of course by Arkansas two-time Heisman runner-up Darren McFadden (6-2, 210)..........[more]

Hillis now primed to display his skills   02/24/2008
http://www.nwanews.com/adg/Sports/217761/

Hillis is about tired of the interviews, the medical exams and the tests. Even though he bench pressed 225 pounds 26 times Saturday, he's ready for something different.

Hillis is ready to hit the field, and he'll get his wish today. As a Brian Leonard-type halfbackfullback, Hillis plays a position that is slowly being phased out of many NFL offenses, so these auditions are extremely important for him.

"For me, at my position and what I look like and what I am, it's kind of hard to prove anything to a lot of coaches,"Hillis said. "Statistically, you're not like a lot of guys..........[more]

NFL Scouting Combine report   02/24/2008
http://www.nwanews.com/adg/Sports/217784/

Five-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson predicts strong 40-yard dash results for Arkansas All-Americans Darren McFadden and Felix Jones at the NFL Scouting Combine today.

“I’d say I feel confident that Felix and Darren are both 4. 3 [-second ] guys,” Johnson said. “I think both of those guys will run 4. 3. Obviously, there’s always a possibility they don’t run well. With those guys, if they blow it they run 4. 4.” Johnson should have a pretty good handle on how the ex-Razorbacks are feeling. He’s been training them for the past five weeks at the Michael Johnson Performance Center in McKinney, Texas, outside Dallas..........[more]

Pelphrey’s Kentucky return ends in 63-58 loss for Hogs   02/24/2008
http://nwanews.com/nwat/Sports/62540/

Arkansas coach John Pelphrey's Kentucky homecoming boiled down to Brooklyn.

And with Ramel Bradley, Kentucky's senior point guard from Brooklyn, N. Y., nailing the irrevocably tie-breaking shot over Arkansas Brooklyn-born senior point guard Gary Ervin, the New York accent slanted to Pelphrey's old school instead of his new team.

Arkansas never drew even after Bradley's 2-point jumper with: 01 on the shot clock and 1: 17 on the game clock snapped a 55-55 tie en route to the Wildcats'eventual 63-58 Southeastern Conference victory Saturday afternoon before 24, 371 at Rupp Arena..........[more]

http://nwanews.com/nwat/Sports/62541/

A win is a win. But this early in the season, there's always room for improvement.
